PlayStation 3 (With Two Games, A Blu-Ray Movie, An HDMI Cable, And A Blu-Ray Remote)

One good thing to have come out of the "credit crunch", recession, or any other term you want to give the country being in a right old mess, is that the price of video games and consoles has fallen to almost decent levels - new releases are often lowered in supermarkets, and bundles contain titles people actually want to play.

Let’s spare a thought for poor old Sony though, who have been losing money on the PS3 since day one. At least more people will be buying them now, as offers like today’s one appear to be irresistible.

Amazon have the PlayStation 3 (with two games, a Blu-Ray movie, an HDMI cable, and a Blu-Ray remote) available for £299.97 - for more information, click here.

Unreal Tournament III

The Unreal series seems to have been around for ages, but there have only actually been eight games made in total. Unreal Tournament III is the fourth Unreal Tournament title, and runs on a completely new game engine from previous incarnations.

It’s primarily an online multiplayer title which offers several game modes, but there’s also an extensive offline single-player campaign with an in-depth story to work your way through. As far as first-person shooters go this is top-notch, as it not only looks brilliant but plays fantastically as well.

Click here to get the PS3 version for £15 from Woolworths (even if they go bust, you’ll still get your order), or click here to buy the XBox 360 release for £26.99 from ShopTo.

Mercenaries 2: World In Flames

It’s never going to win any awards for being original or excellent, but Mercenaries 2: World In Flames is quite competent in being a brainless and thrilling third-person shooter. Not much more you can ask for really!

There are a few nagging annoyances though, such as an unintelligent AI and some questionable gameplay mechanics, but these aren’t too much to get worked up about. A fairly decent co-op and excellent online multiplayer mode make up for any grievances you may have anyway.

Click here to get the PS3 version, or click here for the XBox 360 release - both of which are £19.99 each over at Play.com.

Cheap games like Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 are worth getting for the multiplayer mode alone

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is a "part sequel, part prequel", as events run both before and concurrently to the story of the former leader of Rainbow Six, Logan Keller, and continue from where the first game concluded.

In it you play the role of Bishop, who has a great deal more experience than Keller and is more deeply involved in the story. Along with an exciting single player campaign, the excellent co-op and multiplayer modes from the original return bigger and better than ever.

Play.com are selling this PlayStation 3 title for £9.99 - click here for more details and hurry, as this deal ends tonight (25th of November)!

Not to be confused with the Amazon video game Christmas sale, there’s also a few separate Amazon cheap games offers worth taking a look at.

Prices start as low as £3.97, so I’m sure you’ll find something worthwhile.

Mirror's Edge

Mirror’s Edge is a first-person action-adventure game set in a conformist dystopia in which communication is heavily monitored by a totalitarian regime (remind you of anywhere?). A network of runners, including the main character Faith, are therefore used to transmit messages whilst evading the Government.

If there’s one criticism you could have about this game, it’s that it’s a little on the short side - don’t be surprised if you’ve completed it within a couple of days or so. Well worth getting if you’re looking for something a bit different from the norm though.

PES 2009: Pro Evolution Soccer

Could PES 2009: Pro Evolution Soccer be the last one to appear on the PlayStation 2? This hasn’t been confirmed, but you do get the feeling that less emphasis has been put into it than the seventh generation console versions - which include a full Champions League tournament not found on this.

It has to also be said that FIFA has either moved on a par, or ever so slightly ahead, in terms of playability. As someone has both, I feel qualified to state my reasons why - Pro Evo seems a bit more arcade-y than previous, whereas FIFA 09 plays much more realistically.

Click here to get the PS2 version for £12.49 from Gamestation. They are also selling the PlayStation 3 (click here) and XBox 360 (click here) releases for £19.99 each as well, which is incredibly good value for money.

Dead Space

In the future, the Earth’s appetite for resources has led to a great deal of deep space exploration. Huge, privately-owned and operated mining ships orbit planets and extract rock, reducing it to component elements and raw ore.

When communications with one of these ships goes down, top engineer Isaac Clarke is sent to fix the problem. However, once he gets aboard he soon realises that he’s not alone…

Pop in to your nearest Gamestation and pick up Dead Space, on either the XBox 360 or PlayStation 3, for £24.99.

Far Cry 2

Although it has a fairly rubbish storyline, and it’s damn annoying when enemies respawn quickly, Far Cry 2 isn’t quite as bad as some would have you believe. It’s maybe not as good as Call Of Duty, but then how many other first-person shooters are?

You can pretty much do what you like and choose who to align with in the single player campaign, which is nice. It’s the online multiplayer that’s the real highlight though, with up to 16 players able to duke it out at one time.

If you fancy this, click here to get the XBox 360 version or click here to get the PS3 release (which comes with four extra missions) - both of which are £26.99 each at HMV.

Rock Band: Band In A Box

Before Guitar Hero: World Tour essentially copied the idea, the fact that you could play as part of a virtual band was a great selling point for Rock Band. It’s just a pity that damn things cost so much!

Inside the Rock Band: Band In A Box kit you’ll find a microphone, drums, and a guitar. What you won’t find is a copy of the game, which is a tad irritating.

Click here to buy the PlayStation 3 set for £79.99 from Play.com, or click here to get the Wii set for £84.99 from ShopTo. XBox 360 owners can pop in to Tesco and pick up their one for £89.71.
