Madden NFL 08

I always feel a bit better inside when I see a new Madden game every year - it’s almost like a reminder of bygone years, or some kind of nonsense like that. Yes, I’m a little mad.

Anyway, Madden NFL 08 is the latest in the series and has a bunch of new features such as a read-and-react system, skill drills and a Fantasy Challenge mode (where you draft your dream team and advance through different levels of difficulty).

There’s many console versions available for decent prices. The PS2 release is £12.99 (click here), the PSP version is £13.99 (click here), the XBox 360 release is £14.99 (click here) and the Wii version is £18.99 (click here) - all from SoftUK.

Peter Jackson's King Kong

Peter Jackson’s King Kong was an alright film, even if the original was better (as is usually the case). The game is a very faithful interpretation of the movie and lets you go a bit deeper into certain parts of the story.

Even if it is a little bit on the easy side (think Lost: The Video Game easy), it just makes it more accessable to gamers of all ages. The voicework is good as well, if that’s something that interests you.

L.A. Rush

If mad jumps and crazy stunts are your kind of thing, may I suggest a purchase of L.A. Rush. This arcade-style racer has 36 licensed vehicles and over 30 different tracks to race on.

This PSP version includes the exclusive Stunt Arena where you can perform loads of craziness while collecting golden tokens to unlock extra content.

Asda have this game available for £8.93 - for more information, click here.

Bomberman Land

Bomberman Land sees you trying to battle your way to the top to try and save Bomberman Land. I’m presuming this is where all the Bombermen live, but then again it could just be some sort of theme park (actually, looking at the blurb I’m pretty sure that’s EXACTLY what it is).

You’ll be glad to know this comes packed with tons of mini-games, which everybody loves. Actually they don’t, but companies keep sticking them in anyway.

Click here to buy the PSP version of this game for £10.99, or click here for the Wii release (which is £14.99) - both are in stock at HMV.

DS owners might like to know that Bomberman Land Touch! (which is part of the ongoing Gamestation sale) and Bomberman Land Touch! 2 are still available for decent prices.

WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2008

Over the years, wrestling video games have gone the same way as football games and become better and better. Although there’s no huge improvement over the last one, there’s enough in WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2008 to sustain interest.

Not only do get the usual updated roster (which is slightly outdated now), but ECW superstars and arenas are included as well as enhanced online community support.

Click here to get the PSP release for £9.99 from CD-WOW, or click here for the PlayStation 3 version (which is £15.99 at Choices UK).

Crash: Tag Team Racing

Crash: Tag Team Racing is very similar to the Mario Kart games, except instead of Mario characters you have Crash characters instead (obviously). One of those cheap games that’s good fun it is as well.

Interestingly, you can fuse two cars together on the fly by crashing into another player - this turns your vehicle into a super vehicle equipped with a massive gun!

Click here to pick up the XBox (yes, the original XBox!) version for £8.99 or click here for the PSP release, which is £9.99 - both from SoftUK.

Spinout

Spinout is a PSP exclusive that combines high speed racing, puzzle solving and precision control in one handy little package.

There’s 54 courses and a whole host of unlockable rewards including new courses, Xorb skins, body styles, power ups and race championships.

Football Manager Handheld

The football simulation niche is one of the most addictive around - so addictive that marriages have been destroyed, jobs have been lost and friends have been ignored.

Football Manager Handheld, on the PSP, is quite out-of-date now but serves as a great introduction to this mental world.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

If you’re a golf nut, then Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 will be right up your street.

In all honesty, before I’d ever played this I wasn’t a big fan of golf video games - now I think they’re great. Especially on the Wii!

SoftUK are selling the PSP version for £11.99 (click here), while ShopTo have the PlayStation 3 release priced at £17.93 (click here).

FlatOut: Head On

FlatOut: Head On drops the hammer on the PSP extreme racing genre. From rock-smashing run-ins in desiccated desert landscapes to down and dirty races through rubbish-strewn city streets, FlatOut’s PSP debut is yet another gritty outing into racing carnage. The FlatOut physics engine delivers degrees of extreme racing that have yet to be seen on the PSP; get ready for head on destruction that could literally leave you, the track and your car in pieces.

The more carnage you produce the more points you score, but the additional problems you will face. All the same, utilising this to your advantage will get you even more bonus points by busting up other vehicles throughout the races. With wireless multiplayer party gaming modes ranging from wheel-to-wheel challenges, demolition derbies and Ragdoll stunts, the only reason you’ll stop is if you’ve no wheels left.
