Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition

Resident Evil 4 is probably one of the best games ever made - seriously, if I was to list all the good points about it, I’d be here all day. This sixth entry in the Resident Evil series has also won a whole host of awards.

The Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition features brand new controls that bring you closer to the action than ever before. The Wii Remote allows you to aim and shoot anywhere on the screen and can also be flicked in order to instantly target an enemy with a knife.

Argos have reduced the price of this to £14.99 - click here for more details.

There’s a variety of Wii games at £9.99 each from Play.com which I thought I’d bring to your attention.

Some are a bit rubbish, but one or two are worth adding to your collection.

Blazing Angels: Squadrons Of WWII
Driver: Parallel Lines
Far Cry: Vengeance
Fun Park
Jenga: World Tour
Prince Of Persia: Rival Swords
Red Steel
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Totally Spies! Totally Party
World Championship Poker: Howard Lederer All In

Alone In The Dark

Alone In The Dark was originally called Alone In The Dark: Near Death Investigation, but the makers instead opted to go for the same name as the very first in the series - how ruddy bloody confusing!

DVD-style episodes allow you to choose to start the game from the beginning, or simply skip to a different section if you get stuck. The interchangeable first and third person camera helps make solving the puzzles a little easier, and the environment plays a big part as anything can be picked up and used as a weapon.

PES 2008 (Pro Evolution Soccer)

PES 2008 (Pro Evolution Soccer) is the very first game in the Pro Evolution Soccer series to appear on the Wii, and is also the first to be released on a Nintendo console outside of Japan.

This version is radically different from all other console versions, thanks to the Wii’s unique controls. Pointing the Wii Remote at the screen and directing players by dragging them with the on-screen cursor, and passing by pointing to the desired space or player and pressing a button makes for a much more innovative way of playing.

Okami £23.99

Okami

One of the most underrated games of all time (and I don’t say this lightly!) has to be Okami. Sales have been disappointing for both the Wii and PlayStation 2 versions, which would normally mean that it’s bad - this is far, far, FAR from the truth.

Okami combines Japanese myths, legends, and folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the Shinto sun goddess Amaterasu, who has taken on the form of a white wolf.  The beautiful graphics and innovative gameplay help make for a gaming experience like no other, especially on the Wii.

Jumper: Griffin's Story

Jumper is a terrible film that came out earlier in 2008 and did quite well - proof positive that people will watch any old shit at the cinema. Jumper: Griffin’s Story is a game based on this piece of nonsense, and it too is quite bad.

The very fact that the Game Rankings website have it done as an average of 23% based on various reviews will probably tell you everything you need to know.

Click here to foolishly get this Wii game for £7.99 from SoftUK. XBox 360 owners can risk scarring themselves mentally by buying it for £9.99 as part of some Gamestation deals, or PlayStation 2 nutters can pay £2.99 to The Game Collection by clicking here and praying it’s not as bad as I’m trying to make out.

The Nintendo Wii has many cheap games available for it

The Wii needs absolutely no introduction, as I’m sure that you’re sick to death of hearing about it - trust me when I say that the nearer we get to Christmas, the worse it will get. It’ll probably be out of stock all over the place as well.

Wii Sports is included with every purchase (for now anyway), and is a good example of what the console does well, simple games that anyone can pick up and play. It doesn’t matter if you’re 8 or 80, as the controls are dead simple.

Click here to buy the Nintendo Wii (with a copy of Wii Sports) for £159.99 from Woolworths. Be quick though, as this offer will surely sell out quickly.

Dave Mirra BMX Challenge

Dave Mirra BMX Challenge is a bit like Tony Hawk on a bike, except that this is much, much worse. Still if you’re a fan of the sport or the man himself, I’m sure you’ll get some enjoyment from the game.

Three modes are present (exhibition, quickplay, and career), with the career option having three levels of difficulty. There’s no multiplayer though, which is disappointing.

Wall-E

The Wall-E game is based on the movie of the same name. Interestingly, there are variations in the game based on which console you buy it for - something which you don’t see all that often.

On the Wii there are nine explorable worlds and three head-to-head multiplayer modes, the DS version features fourteen worlds and unlockable clips from the film, and for the PlayStation 2 release you can use music to summon help whilst travelling through the nineteen different worlds.

Click here to buy the Wii version for £15 from Asda, click here to get the DS release for £17.99 from Game, or click here to buy the PS2 version for the same price of £17.99 from Game.

PSP owners might like to know that their release is also £17.99, but this time it’s part of the Powerplay Direct sale from a couple of weeks ago.

Cheap games like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 are great fun in multiplayer

The Wii version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is slightly different from the other console releases, in that you use the Wii Remote in the same way that you would use a real golf club.

The game itself allows you to play on any number of different courses, with a huge amount of professional players to choose from. You can now also create your own golf course by grouping together various golf holes.
