With a general release date of February 22 for the UK, Sony’s brand new hand-held gaming revolution – Playstation Vita (which is Latin for ‘Life’) – aims to dramatically transform gamers everyday lives into a full-on, exciting, entertainment phenomenon. The latest handheld from Sony is the sequel to the hugely popular PSP console, but it is now much more powerful, but still retains it's slim look and is very light.

Compatible with PSP titles, minis and PS one classic games, the Vita is equipped with 512MB of RAM backed up with 128MB of VRAM, allowing users to move quickly between the Vita’s features to let you multi-task, chat, game and watch videos.
Offering you the very best in high-definition gaming on the go, the Playstation Vita is bigger than the original PSP, but is also very slim and extremely light. It has an operating system that is similar to the PS3, built into a sturdy, yet classy designed hand-held, that fits comfortably into your hands. The high-performance 5” OLED (organic light emitting diode) screen gives wonderfully vivid and striking graphics, which rivalling nothing to that seen before on portable gaming systems.
The consoles’ new and unique rear touch pad, along with the front touchscreen, allows gamers to interact with play with touch, grab, trace, and push-and-pull finger movements giving you a three-dimension like motion experience. The console is also fitted with front and rear cameras, three motion sensors, built-in stereo speakers and microphone, a headphone port, a gyroscope, a accelerometer, and an electronic compass. Sony has also introduced a second analogue joystick, offering players the ultimate in flexibility and precision gaming, giving the feeling of playing home console games on a portable system.
Vita will also let you listen to music tracks while you play games; as well as the ability to watch blockbuster movies, downloadable from the PlayStation Store.

Sony have hinted that this autumn will see Call of Duty released on the Vita platform. It is not yet clear whether this will be a rehash of an existing CoD game, or a brand new Vita exclusive game, but either way it could be the difference between success and failure for the Playstation Vita launch in 2012.
