Pipemania was originally a puzzle game that appeared on the Amiga in 1989. Nearly 20 years later it’s making a comeback, and it’s better than ever - well, as better as you can make a game about connecting pipes.

Lay down some pipe (steady!) on a tiled grid to stop the Flooze, a constantly flowing substance that speeds up over time, moving through the pipes without overflowing. Five different modes will provide many hours of enjoyment, and you don’t even need to be a plumber to like it.

Asda have this DS game up for preorder at £14.73 - click here for more details on this cheap games‘ availability.

Hot Wheels: Beat That! is based on the toys that you may have played with as a child. I didn’t, but then my parents didn’t believe in toys - this may be a lie.

The game features 30 authentic vehicles, competitive weaponry, power-ups, and a two-player mode. Graphics are a bit basic, although this is aimed at kids and most kids are thick (at least that’s what game developers would have you believe).

Gamestation deals are quite regular, especially in their stores - although they’ve become slightly worse since Game bought them, but I suppose that’s to be expected.

For some time now, any games based on The Simpsons have either been very good (The Simpsons: The Arcade Game) or absolutely awful (The Simpsons Wrestling). The Simpsons Game falls somewhere in between the two, as it’s too short and has a crap camera - although it does look excellent, and the writing is very similar to that of the show itself.

Most versions are third-person actioners, where the family discover that they are forced to take part in another Simpsons game and poke fun at other video games. However, the DS release has some differences - it’s a sidescrolling platformer, there are less cutscenes, and some of the character’s powers have been removed.

The Game Collection have the DS version for £9.95 (click here), or ShopTo are selling the PSP release for £9.99 (click here).

DS Lite Deals

Christmas will be rolling about in a few months time, and I can imagine the scenes of madness around the DS and Wii will probably be repeated again. So now would be a good chance to take advantage of the DS Lite deals that are available right now.

Instore at Asda you can get any coloured console plus copies of Brain Challenge and My Health Coach: Manage Your Weight (which includes a free pedometer) for £95.

Or you could pop into Toys R Us, who currently have either a black or white system with copies of The Golden Compass and Spectrobes priced at £99.99.

Finally be sure to check out the Nintendo DS Lite with Carnival: Funfair Games, Nintendo DS Lite, and other DS Lite offers if these two don’t take your fancy.

How can anyone not love the DS? With a great range of games available for it, as well as the ability to play GameBoy Advance titles on it, I can’t think of any other handheld console that’s been this good. It fits in your pocket as well!

Carnival: Funfair Games is a collection of mini-games that each have a carnival theme, such as Alley Bowling, Lucky Cups, Nerves Of Steel, and Hoops.

The reason I’ve mentioned both of these items is that Woolworths have a promotion running until the 25th of August, whereby you get a Nintendo DS Lite (with Carnival: Funfair Games) for £99.99 - click here for more details. You can choose from pretty much any colour of console you fancy as well.

Be aware that there are other DS Lite offers around, including the Nintendo DS Lite by itself for £89.99.

Cars is a game based on the film of the same name, except that this is technically a sequel as it takes place after the events of the movie. The story sees Lightning McQueen preparing for and racing in the 2006 Piston Cup season.

Five chapters allow you to race against many of the other characters that you know and love from the hit Disney/Pixar film. Kids will especially enjoy this.

The Nintendo DS Lite is easily the best handheld on the market today, and very possibly the best ever made. It might sound like hyperbole, but the amount of decent games available for it shames most other consoles into submission.

Many different colours can be bought to match your mood or style. Actually, it’s more likely an evil ploy by Nintendo to make more money - but who can blame them?

Tesco have the black (click here), pink (click here) or white (click here) systems, whereas Amazon are selling the turquoise (click here) console - all are £89.99 each.

Remember, if you’re ordering from Tesco, to enter the voucher code Freedel at the checkout to get free delivery.

There’s something quite unusual about Ridge Racer DS - it’s based on a Nintendo 64 game (which is funnily enough called Ridge Racer 64). It’s been updated though, so no need to worry about whether it might look a bit shoddy.

It feels very similar to the original, with identical tracks, but includes a wireless multiplayer mode not found on the N64. Fun times abound when you can race up to five other players.

SoftUK are selling this title for £9.99 - for more information, click here.
