James Bond: Quantum Of Solace

James Bond: Quantum Of Solace is the first 007 title to be released on the current generation of gaming consoles, and is based on the film of the same name and Daniel Craig’s first Bond movie, "Casino Royale".

This is primarily a first-person shooter, though at times the view switches to a third-person perspective to emphasise that you are Bond. The online multiplayer mode is probably the best thing about this game, as the single player missions are neither particularly interesting nor exciting enough to warrant repeat plays.

HMV are selling the PlayStation 3 release for £17.99 - click here for more details. They also have the XBox 360 version (click here) for the same price, whilst the Wii release (click here) is £19.57 over at Amazon.

Alone In The Dark

Just to confuse the general public at large, Alone In The Dark is actually the fifth entry in the series of the same name - even though this shares the title of the first in the series, there are absolutely no similarities at all (so why they didn’t come up with a new name is beyond me).

You play as Edward Carnby, who is looking for answers to strange supernatural and bizarre events while battling his way through the opposition in New York’s Central Park. Interestingly, you can choose to start the game from the beginning or skip a section if you get stuck - if you choose the latter option, past events are recollected in a "Previously on Alone In The Dark" cutscene at the beginning of the new episode.

Click here to buy this XBox 360 title for £9.99 from Gamestation. PlayStation 2 and Wii owners can get their versions for the same price as part of the current Play.com video game sale. Maybe not one of the greatest cheap games you’ll ever play, but it certainly has its moments.

Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock (With Wireless Guitar)

Although Christmas is but only a few short days away now, if you’re searching for a last-minute gift that the whole family can enjoy then look no further than Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock.

You don’t even have to particularly like the songs that you play along to, but once you get into the swing of things you’ll never know how you lived without this in your life - seriously, expect arguments aplenty over whose turn it is next.

Instore at HMV you can pick up Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock, with a wireless guitar, from £28. The PlayStation 2 version is £28, whilst the PlayStation 3, Wii, and XBox 360 releases are £35 each.

Skate is one of those cheap games that took everyone by surprise

The amazing success of Skate seemed to catch everyone off-guard, including the company that produced the game. Sales have been almost double that of Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, which goes to show that there very well could be a new king in town…

You control a custom-designed skateboarder in the fictional town of San Vanelona, and take part in various challenges and events that are to be found around the city. Instead of pushing buttons, this game gives a more realistic feel by having you use the analog sticks to launch all kinds of different stunts.

Resistance: Fall Of Man

Resistance: Fall Of Man is a first-person shooter set in an alternate history 1951, and puts you in the role of Sergeant Nathan Hale as he and the human resistance forces attempt to drive a mysterious alien-like invasion out of Britain.

Even though it was a launch title, this still holds up as an excellent FPS - especially in the online multiplayer mode. The sequel, Resistance 2, came out recently (and can still be bought for £19.99 as part of the ShopTo Christmas sale).

Click here to buy this PlayStation 3 game for £9.95 from The Game Collection.

There’s a small selection of SoftUK gaming bargains worth mentioning, across a few different platforms.

Not too much to get excited about, but Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon is excellent value for money.

PSP

Star Ocean: First Departure £12.99

Wii

Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon £16.99

XBox 360

Football Manager 2006 £2.49
WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2007 £4.99

Saints Row 2

If you’re looking for a realistic game, then Saints Row 2 might not be for you - however, if you like a bit of mindless fun then it most certainly will be. It’s far too easy to compare this to Grand Theft Auto IV, but what I will say is that the unpredictable mayhem in this title pushes the antics in Liberty City all the way.

The aim is to reconquer Stilwater, eliminate the three rival gangs who now control the streets there, and give retribution to those who have betrayed your character in the past. Online multiplayer is a great laugh, and downloadable content is coming soon which will help to expand its longevity.

Sendit.com have this XBox 360 title available for £21.89 (when using the Sendit.com £1 discount voucher) - for more information, click here. This is yet another "deal of the day" thingy, so get your order in quickly!

PlayStation 3 owners can purchase their version for the lower price of £17.99 as part of the Play.com video game sale. The XBox 360 Collector’s Edition (which comes in gun mould packaging and contains a memory stick, artbook, and posters) is also in this, for £39.99.

Th!nk Fast: The Family Quiz Game

Quiz shows used to be a television-only affair, until the appearance of "Buzz!" on the PlayStation 2 saw them make the transition to the video game arena. This has led to some terrifying sights though, such as a virtual Noel Edmonds and Jasper Carrott (don’t have nightmares!).

Th!nk Fast: The Family Quiz Game is a Disney-themed effort, hosted by the Genie from "Aladdin". In it you can choose to play as a wide variety of classic characters and compete against others across 15 rounds, which are full of mini-games and questions.

Click here to get the Wii version for £17.93 from Asda, but be quick as this is a "deal of the day" offer and will be gone soon.

Midnight Club: Los Angeles

Trust me when I say that if you enjoy a challenge, Midnight Club: Los Angeles will give you one - the AI is some of the most difficult I’ve ever seen in a racing title, with some almost superhuman driving skills on display.

Los Angeles itself looks amazing when you’re bombing through the streets, and the 43 cars and 3 bikes to choose from look equally brilliant. Shouldn’t really expect anything less from the team behind Grand Theft Auto though, should we?

Play-Asia have an import XBox 360 version of this game available for around £12.28 delivered - for more information, click here. This will work fine on your PAL console, as too will the online multiplayer mode.

PS3 owners should check out the Play.com video game sale, as their release is in it for £17.99 at the moment.

MotoGP 07

Even though it’s now a year or so out of date, MotoGP 07 is still one of the best motorbike racing games available on the market. New 800cc bikes and all 18 tracks of the 2007 MotoGP season, plus rider and team data that was accurate at the time, make for the complete biking experience.

Handling and braking has been changed slightly to allow for easier accessibility, as have acceleration and deceleration. The ability to customise your bike has also been improved, although there is still a limit to how much you can do (paintwork in particular doesn’t allow for a great level of detail).

Click here to get this XBox 360 title for £6.99 from The Game Collection. Very cheap games like this may not be to everyone’s taste, but give it a chance - you might be surprised!
