The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game Of The Year Edition From £9.95

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is a role-playing game that revolves around an escaped prisoner and their efforts to thwart a plot masterminded by a fanatical cult – a scheme involving opening gates to a hellish realm called Oblivion and unleashing its horrors on the mortal world.

Additional content has been released for it since it first came out, and two packs are contained in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – Game Of The Year Edition. "Knights Of The Nine" centers on the rise of the sorcerer-king Umaril, and "Shivering Isles" offers over 30 hours of new material to enjoy.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen £15

Although it's not the best Transformers game ever made (that would be the one based on the animated series for the PlayStation 2), Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is certainly the best-looking of the series – it's also 100 times better than the car crash that was Transformers: The Video Game.

Loosely following the plot of the movie, this allows you to play through two campaigns – one as the Autobots, and another as the Decepticons. A pretty decent multiplayer mode is also included, which contains five different challenges to compete with others in.

Tesco are selling both the PlayStation 3 (click here) and XBox 360 (click here) versions for £15 each.

Shellshock 2: Blood Trails £4.99

Being the sequel to Shellshock: Nam '67, which was regarded as a decent third-person shooter, you'd think that sequel Shellshock 2: Blood Trails would be just as good – sadly, it's fallen victim to the first-person shooter trap (i.e. it's never going to be as good as Call of Duty, etc.).

Although the story is actually pretty good, this is the only positive thing I can say about this game. There's not even a multiplayer mode, so once you've completed the disappointing single player campaign you'll have little or no reason to go back to it.

If you do fancy this PlayStation 3 title, click here to buy it for £4.99 from Play.com.

Guitar Hero 5 From £17.87

You'd think by now that they would have run out of new ideas to implement in these instrument games, however Guitar Hero 5 manages to incorporate a few – the highlights of which are drop-in/drop-out play, a Rockfest competitive mode and both song-specific and general challenges to unlock bonus stuff.

The track list contains 85 songs by 83 different artists and several musicians with works in the game have been modeled for avatars, including Johnny Cash, Carlos Santana, Shirley Manson, Matthew Bellamy and, most controversially of all, Kurt Cobain.

Tesco are selling the PlayStation 3 version for £17.87 – click here for more details. XBox 360 owners can click here to buy their release for the higher price of £25.99 from the same retailer.

NBA Live 10 From £29.37

NBA Live 10 is the latest installment in the long-running E.A. Sports basketball series – much like with FIFA 10 and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, the improvements over last year's outing are more than enough to justify a purchase (even though some claim they are merely roster updates and not much else).

Audiences have been given a bigger role than ever before in order to create more lifelike atmospheres, while teams have been given their own individual playing style with faster running animations that take into account player sizes – 24 authentic FIBA squads have also been included as well.

Amazon have the PlayStation 3 version for £29.37 – for more information, click here. XBox 360 gamers can click here to get their release for £29.84 from the same retailer.

Instead of being just another game in the franchise, Prince Of Persia is a completely new chapter. A different story, as well as a new graphic style and gameplay elements, is like a breath of fresh air in a series that had been on the slide in recent times.

The gameplay retains a similar feel to that found in the "Sands Of Time" trilogy, in the sense that acrobatics, puzzle solving, an combat elements remain. However, it's non-linear and, as such, gives you the chance to explore any part of the world whenever you feel like it.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 £10

The first Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter was a very in-depth tactical fighting game, and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 takes this and kicks it up a notch.

In 2014 there's a new and more imminent threat along the recently completed wall on the U.S./Mexico border. The Ghosts have only 72 hours to assess the threat and stop the rebels from reaching U.S. soil…

Click here to buy this PlayStation 3 game for £10 from Play.com. The same retailer also still has the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 – Legacy Edition XBox 360 title for £9.99.

MotorStorm £7.79

Strange as it may seem, the original MotorStorm is still one of the very best racing games available for the PlayStation 3. Not only are there some decent vehicles to choose from, but there are some excellent tracks to race around as well.

It may have been out for quite some time now, but that hasn't stopped folk from battling it out across the world in the online multiplayer mode – which is impressive when you consider that there are many more games people could be playing against each other.
