FIFA 09

As a longtime semi-fanboy of Pro Evolution, it almost pains me to say that this year’s FIFA is much better than PES 2009: Pro Evolution Soccer. Konami simply haven’t done enough to improve on the last one, whereas E.A. appear to be listening to what the fans want to see.

The "Be A Pro" mode is a great little idea, where you take control of one player throughout his career and help build up his stats. Combined with some excellent online multiplayer play, as well as the standard career options, this is football gaming at its best.

Click here to get the PS2 version for £14.93 from Asda. They also have the DS (click here) and PSP (click here) releases for the same price.

Wii owners can get their version for £17.73 from The Hut by clicking here, whilst HMV are selling the PlayStation 3 (click here) and XBox 360 (click here) releases for £24.99 each.

Guitar Hero: World Tour (With Wireless Guitar)

The arrival of Rock Band meant that the pressure was on for the guys behind Guitar Hero to make the next one even better. With Guitar Hero: World Tour, they appear to have done just that.

It’s the first in the series to feature drum and microphone controllers (available separately) and you can also now create your own songs in the "Music Studio". These can be uploaded and shared through the GHTunes service, where you can download other people’s tunes to play yourself.

To get Guitar Hero: World Tour (with a wireless guitar) on the PS2 for £37.99 from ShopTo, simply click here. The same retailer has the Wii version (click here) available for £60 and the PS3 (click here) and XBox 360 (click here) releases priced at £62.99 each.

Cheap games like this can pretty much take over your life, as they are the best example of a "just one more go" kind of deal that I can think of.

FIFA 09

It was on the cards since last year, but FIFA has finally surpassed Pro Evolution Soccer in the fight for top football game. FIFA 09 is great fun in either single player or with a friend, and runs much faster than I remembered it did previously.

Goalkeepers have improved tremendously, and actually appear to want to save the ball - which has always been something of a problem in the past! The online mode is as good as ever, and "Be A Pro" has been extended to run for a total of four seasons.

If you fancy the PlayStation 2 version, click here to get it for £14.97 from Amazon - click here to get the PSP release for the same price from the same retailer.

Also at Amazon you can buy the PS3 (click here), Wii (click here), or XBox 360 (click here) versions for £22.97 each.

Cheap games like TNA: iMPACT! aren't all that good

In all honesty, TNA: iMPACT! isn’t very good. Those used to the glitz and glamour of the WWE video games will be disappointed with the limited and repetitive movesets, poor entrances, lack of Championship belts, and poor computer opposition.

Fans of the company will definitely at least want to take a look, as everyone you’d expect is included. The graphics are pretty good too, and the controls are very easy which makes it simple to pick up and play straight away.

Click here to buy the Wii version, click here for the PlayStation 3 release, or click here to get the XBox 360 version - all of which are £14.73 each over at The Hut.

PlayStation 3 80GB Console (With Two Games)

The PlayStation 3 originally had a 60GB hard drive, then a 40GB one was released, and now we have an 80GB console that replaces them both. How ruddy bloody confusing, especially with rumors that there will be an ever bigger hard drive at some point in the near future!

After some initial teething problems, the system has firmly established itself as one of the best around. Fanboys may argue until the sun goes down, but you can’t dispute that there are least a few very good titles available for it.

Argos are selling the PlayStation 3 80GB console, with two games, for £299.96 - but you have to do some clicking to get this price. Click here for the system, click here for Gran Turismo 5: Prologue, click here for Little Big Planet, and click here for the PS3 Mega Pack (adding them all to the basket will make the total come to £299.96).

FIFA 09

In the run up to Christmas last year, Play.com ran a "deal of the day" offer where there was one very good bargain to be had every single day of the week - and it appears as though it’s back again for 2008.

FIFA 09 is up for grabs for a top price until the end of Monday the 3rd of November, and it’s well worth picking up. Not only has it improved greatly since the last version, but it’s actually better than this year’s Pro Evolution! Shocking!

Click here to get the PlayStation 3 release, click here for the Wii version, or click here to buy the XBox 360 release - all of which are £19.99 each at Play.com.

Buzz! Quiz TV (With Buzzers)

Not only is Buzz! Quiz TV the first in the series of quiz games to appear on the PlayStation 3, it’s also the first to feature both user-created content and online play.

There’s over 5000 all new questions across five different topics, as well as many more that can be purchased from the online PlayStation Store.

Choices UK have Buzz! Quiz TV (with Buzzers) available for £33.99 - click here for more details.

Need For Speed: Prostreet

Need For Speed: Prostreet is a good racing game, but it must be said that all of the cars have shoddy performance and unrealistic handling. It’s also a pity that the makers decided to move away from the traditional roots of street racing.

What I will say is that the online multiplayer mode is quite possibly one of the best around, as it’s much more integrated into the game than ever before and offers a greater level of competition as well.

Click here to buy the PSP version for £6.99 from Play.com, or click here to get the PS3 release for £11.99 from ShopTo.

Grand Theft Auto IV is one of the best cheap games of 2008

For anyone who’s been living under a rock, Grand Theft Auto IV is the lastest and greatest title in the long-running Grand Theft Auto series. Controversy surrounds every release, but this had even more because of the similarities between the city in the game and the real-life New York City - excessive violence and prostitution probably didn’t help either.

There’s more to do than ever before, with lots of little side-games (like bowling, or seeing Ricky Gervais perform stand-up) and missions. However, where this beats every other title in the series is with the online multiplayer mode - nothing better than hacking up a friend with a chainsaw, if you ask me.

If you fancy the XBox 360 version, click here to get it for £22.97 from Amazon. PlayStation 3 owners can get their release for the same price from the same retailer by clicking here.

Fallout 3

The third entry in the Fallout series, Fallout 3, is perhaps the best so far. It’s an action role-playing game with open-ended gameplay and a flexible character-levelling system, which makes it a bit better than other recent entries in the genre.

It takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States in the year 2277, and you play as a member of fallout shelter Vault 101. When your father goes missing, you decided to go out into the Capital Wasteland to search for him…

Pop in to your nearest Sainsburys and pick up either the PlayStation 3 or XBox 360 versions for £29.99 each.
