Cheap Games

Although it’s a little out-of-date, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 is well worth picking up while it’s available for a cheap price. It controls similarly to 08 (and probably 09), so there’s almost no learning curve.

There’s a total of 53 golfers to choose from, 32 of which are fictional, and 21 courses for you to play on – everything else is pretty much what was available in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08.

Game are selling this PS2 title for £7.99 – click here for more details. Alternatively, click here to get the XBox version for £10.99 from SoftUK or click here to buy the PS3 release for £12.99 from base.com.

Haze £17.99

If you need any more proof that hype doesn’t always mean that something’s worthwhile, just take a look at PlayStation 3 title Haze. A huge advertising campaign is all well and good, but it would probably be an idea to make something at least halfway decent before sticking it on the shelf to buy.

It’s a first-person shooter with a serious tone, incorporating themes such as oppression and drug abuse. Mantel Global Industries have created a "nutritional supplement" that lets soldiers fight harder and smarter – you play as one of these soldiers who turns rogue and joins a group of rebels known as "The Promise Hand".

If you fancy this game, click here to get it for the reduced price of £17.99 from Play.com.

The Golden Compass is an action-adventure game based on the film of the same name. It’s really not very good at all, but the very fact that it was in the top ten selling list of 2007 means that people obviously like it…for some reason.

Interestingly, the game sticks much closer to the story told in the book than the movie does – the sequences in Bolvangar and Svalbard are in the correct order, and some of the ending (not present in the film) is shown.

Click here to get this PlayStation 3 title for only £5 from Zavvi. I find cheap games like this difficult to recommend, so I won’t. There!

Beijing 2008 £24.99

Beijing 2008 is the official game of the Olympics – yes it’s just finished, but this is still great fun if you love button bashing! Technically this is the second game based on the 2008 event, with Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games being the first.

32 nations are included to choose from, as well as a total of 38 different events to compete in. A career mode is available for the first time in eight years, and for the very first time you can now play online too.

Game have the PlayStation 3 (click here) and XBox 360 (click here) versions available for £24.99 each.

When the very first Lego Star Wars game was released, a new phenomenon was born. Since then we’ve had a couple more Lego Star Wars titles, Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, and the next one due out is Lego Batman: The Video Game.

Players will be able to fight on land, sea, and in the air uaing any number of recognisable vehicles – from the Batmobile through to the Batwing. All the characters from the actual Lego Batman series are included as well as some new ones such as Clayface, Man-Bat, Mad Hatter, and Batgirl.

Click here to preorder the XBox 360 version or click here for the PlayStation 3 release, both of which are £29.99 each at Amazon.

The Bourne Conspiracy £19.99

The Bourne Conspiracy expands upon Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne character, and immerses you in a cat-and-mouse espionage action adventure. It’s much closer to the story in the first film, rather than the books.

Played from a third-person perspective, you move from fight to fight in order to experience sequences that aim to blend Bourne’s signature hand-to-hand combat with intense shooting and the ability to escape and evade deadly situations.

To get this PS3 game for £19.99 from ShopTo, simply click here – XBox 360 owners can get it for slightly less (£17.99) as part of The Game Collection deals we featured a couple of weeks back.

The PlayStation 3 has gone through many different hard drive sizes since it first appeared on the scene. The latest is 80GB, but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see yet another step up (or two) next year. You can never have enough space!

Dixons have a couple of deals running this bank holiday weekend that look quite interesting. The console by itself is listed at £299.98 – however if you click here and enter the voucher code PS3CONSOLE20 at the checkout you’ll get £20 off, taking the price down to £279.98.

They also have the system with either Haze (click here), Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots (click here), or Wall-E (click here) for £299.99. Sadly the voucher code doesn’t work with these bundles.

NHL 08 is the annual update to the NHL series of games, with the usual updated roster and smattering of new features. Not a lot to get excited about, if we’re being honest.

The "Skill Stick System" lets you control the puck more easily, and "Goalie Mode" lets you control your goalie with a new third person camera. Custom plays can also be created which can be tried out in practice mode before using them in a real game.

Click here to buy this PlayStation 3 game for £17.98 from Amazon. PS2 owners might like to know that they can get the game  for £8.93 as part of the Asda price blitz.

There’s some hot pre-orders available right now for the PlayStation 3.

All of the titles should be good, which is good. Good.
