Cars: Mater-National

Cars: Mater-National is a spin-off game from the Disney Pixar film Cars. It’s basically a racing game, but with characters from the movie - kids will love it, I’m sure.

As this is aimed at the younger gamer, expect a whole ton of mini-games thrown in as well. All in all it’s a great bit of enjoyment that everyone can take part in.

Asda have reduced the price of this PS3 game to £12.93 - click here for more details.

Dark Sector

I’d hate to be an assassin. There’s all the usual things you have to worry about like making sure you do your job properly and carrying out someone’s orders even if you disagree strongly with them - but you have the added pressure of having to kill someone. Which is never nice.

Anyway, Dark Sector sees you taking the role of Hayden Tenno who has been sent on a mission to get rid of someone in Lasria (in Eastern Europe). When he is attacked by an unseen enemy, our character awakens to find that he has inhuman powers - now he must evolve with these abilities to survive and become a hero.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots

Although Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots marks Solid Snake’s first appearance on the PlayStation 3, it looks like it will be his only one - any future Metal Gear titles will have a different lead (apparently).

This game sees the conclusion to one of the most epic series’ in gaming history, and is quite possibly the best of the whole lot. Additions like Metal Gear Online (which will get expansion packs throughout this year) only add to the greatness.

SingStar: Volume 2 (With 2 Microphones)

The first SingStar game on the PlayStation 3 was a big success, so to see a sequel isn’t that much of a surprise. What is slightly surprising is that there’s new stuff been added to the game - to be precise, two new game improvements.

You can now sing with a friend in the all-new "harmony duet" mode and you can also now buy tracks via your PSP (useful if you hear a song on the radio or something and want to sing it at home). SingStar: Volume 2 also comes with 30 new tracks to sing along to.

Click here to buy SingStar: Volume 2 (with two microphones) for £24.99 from Woolworths.

PlayStation 3

The PlayStation 3 had a bit of a rocky start to its life - nobody appeared to want to buy it, and Sony kept dropping the ball in regards to sticking with a size (60GB and 40GB, then just 40GB). When all that nonsense was finally sorted out though, the console really started to shine.

With some good games already available, and some decent ones on the way as well, it’s well worth getting hold of. The online system is also very good - multiplayer titles are fantastic, and you can buy new games from the online store.

Empire Direct have the PlayStation 3 (with copies of Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction and SingStar) available for £269.99 - click here for more details.

Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer

I don’t mind it when games are designed to appeal to youngsters, but whenever I hear that a game based on a film is coming out I know that 9 times out of 10 it will be awful. Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer is no exception.

Ranking right down there with Iron Man in terms of badness, you would probably refused to play this if it was the only title available for the console and you had no choice - it’s that bad. However, fans of the film or comic book series may want to take a look (maybe).

If you fancy this PS3 game, click here to get it for £9.92 from Blah DVD.

SingStar

The PlayStation 3 version of SingStar is slightly different from its PS2 counterparts, in that you can now download extra songs to sing along to from the SingStore. Each additional track will cost you 99p, which is fairly reasonable actually.

There’s 30 tracks on the disc from artists such as Britney Spears, Blink 182 and The Killers - if you’re really daring, you can even share videos of your "singing" with the SingStar community. Heavens to Betsy!

Click here to bag this game for £9.99 from ShopTo - I should also point out that you’ll need to get the microphones to play this, although you can also use the ones from the PS2 SingStar titles.

Need For Speed: Prostreet

There’s not too many decent racing games available for the PlayStation 3 - MotorStorm, Race Driver: Grid and Gran Turismo aside, Need For Speed: Prostreet is probably the best of the bunch.

There’s no online multiplayer mode sadly, but what you do get is the chance to tinker with a wide range of cars - you can then race these on various circuits around the world.

The Simpsons Game

Everybody loves The Simpsons - well they used to anyway, until the writers got incredibly lazy and started putting out rubbish! However, the video games based on the show have been quite awful. Be happy then that The Simpsons Game is at least half decent.

It’s essentially spoofing other famous and popular games like Call Of Duty and Grand Theft Auto, but done in the unique Simpsons fashion. Controlling each member of the family, you must work your way through the impressive-looking levels.

Instore at Comet you can pick up the PlayStation 3 version for just £4.50 - which is very, very cheap!

MotorStorm

MotorStorm was a launch title for the PlayStation 3, but still holds up as one of the best racers on the console. That’s quite a feat, when you consider the competition it’s up against.

With vehicles and environments that are fully destructible, as well as stunning scenery and real-time track deformation, you get a lot of bang for your buck. An excellent online multiplayer mode also adds an extra element of quality.
