Call of Duty: World at War £13.99

The massive success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was always going to be difficult to beat, so it's good to see that developers Treyarch didn't try to – instead of being set in modern times, we once again return to the familiar (in video game terms at least) ground of World War II.

Initial battles involving the United States, the Empire of Japan, the Soviet Union, and Nazi Germany, are the main focus of the single player campaign. Also, you'll probably be glad to hear that the excellent online multiplayer mode is back again – although some say it's not quite as good as Modern Warfare.

Sony PlayStation 3 320GB Slim Console (with PlayStation Move) £284.99

Another year can only mean yet another couple of PlayStation 3 models, though at least this time you're getting a massive increase in hard drive size – 320GB should be more than enough to last people quite a while before needing an upgrade.

The reason for this new system is the release of PlayStation Move, which is Sony's attempt at capturing some of the Wii audience. The only difference here is that the cheap games being designed for use with it are actually looking very good (take note Nintendo).

Game have the Sony PlayStation 3 320GB Slim Console, with PlayStation Move, up for pre-order at £284.99 – click here for more details.

Mass Effect 2 £9.98

Mass Effect 2 is the sequel to what many consider the best game ever produced in the XBox 360's history, Mass Effect. Whilst it may be difficult to believe that developers BioWare could manage to better it, they have – in the process creating the single best gaming experience you are likely to have in 2010.

There are few games that are as gripping as this is, and no matter whether you've played the original or not (hopefully you have!), this is simply something which cannot be missed.

Madden NFL 11 is the latest installment in the long-running American football series, and introduces a whole load of brand new features which add quite a bit to something that was already good to begin with – so it's nice to see EA Sports not resting on their laurels!

"GameFlow" lets you create a situational game plan based on down and situation, speeding up playing time as much as one half of the total game time from previous years – "Online Team Play" is another nice addition too, as it supports 3 versus 3 cooperative play, with attribute boosts given as an incentive.

Though previously only available on PlayStation consoles, the latest installment in the Tekken series is now also playable on the XBox 360 – with Tekken 6 bringing a whole host of new features (including online multiplayer) to an already excellent fighting franchise.

This Tekken 6 Arcade Stick Bundle not only contains a copy of the game, but also a 100-page artbook produced by the development team and an exclusive wireless arcade stick – the closest you'll probably get in this country to recreating the way it was originally meant to be played.

Amazon have the PlayStation 3 release available for £39.73 – for more information, click here. XBox 360 owners can click here to get their version for £43.99 from CoolShop.

While football fans have the FIFA series and American football followers have the Madden games, for many years viewers of the "sweet science" had to make do with some rather shoddy titles – that is, until E.A. Sports decided to unleash Fight Night on the world.

Fight Night Round 4 is the latest entry, and is very probably the best so far. 48 licensed fighters are included (such as Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali) and a wide range of different modes mean that you'll be coming back to this one for some time to come.

Games that are designed with families in mind fall into two categories – fun and entertaining, like the SingStar series, or dull and uninspired, like You're In The Movies. If you remember the Eye Toy titles on the PlayStation 2, this will bring back some rather painful memories!

For something that is supposed to let you "appear in your own movie", it's completely pathetic that the camera can't pick you out every time and adds bits of your room to it as well. All this negativity aside, it might be quite a laugh if you can get a few people to take part (alcohol may help somewhat, I can imagine).

The Scene It? DVD-based party games have been very popular, so it wasn't too much of a surprise to see them translated into video games. Scene It? Box Office Smash is the second one to appear on the XBox 360, and comes with a whole load of new questions to challenge you.

A brilliant new introduction here is the ability to play against others over XBox Live, which will give this an added longevity the first game didn't have – though it still doesn't quite match the experience you'll have via the offline multiplayer mode (in my opinion anyway).

Argos are selling Scene It? Box Office Smash, with four Big Button Pads, for just £1.99 – click here for more details.

With a main character modeled on and voiced by actor and rocker Jack Black, you just know that Brutal Legend is going to be excellent – I suppose the talents of Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy Kilmister probably help just a little bit as well!

You play as Eddie Riggs, a roadie who is transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal albums. There he becomes the world's saviour, leading the down-trodden humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe and a customisable hot rod.

James Cameron's Avatar: The Game is based on the film of the same name, and uses the same technology to be displayed in stereoscopic 3D – the only drawback being that to get the full effect you'll need a 3D TV (which won't be out until later this year at the earliest).

It's actually almost like having two games in one, as you start off as a marine communications officer before turning into your avatar – at which point you can decide to continue as one or the other. As this has more in common with RPG's than anything else, younger gamers may get bored easily (something to consider if you were thinking about Christmas, etc).
