DS Lite

Christmas will be rolling about in a few months time, and I can imagine the scenes of madness around the DS and Wii will probably be repeated again. So now would be a good chance to take advantage of the DS Lite deals that are available right now.

Instore at Asda you can get any coloured console plus copies of Brain Challenge and My Health Coach: Manage Your Weight (which includes a free pedometer) for £95.

Or you could pop into Toys R Us, who currently have either a black or white system with copies of The Golden Compass and Spectrobes priced at £99.99.

Finally be sure to check out the Nintendo DS Lite with Carnival: Funfair Games, Nintendo DS Lite, and other DS Lite offers if these two don’t take your fancy.

Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock is one of the most addictive cheap games you'll ever play

Normally a game that comes out which is near-enough identical to the others in the series would be ridiculed, but in the case of Guitar Hero nobody seems to mind. And with good reason - it rocks!

Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock is the latest release and plays exactly the same way as the previous two Guitar Hero titles. Of course there’s a whole ton of new songs to play along to, but that’s the only difference. Oh, and Slash (from Guns ‘N Roses and Velvet Revolver) makes an appearance.

If you fancy the PS2 version, click here to get it for £17.99. Click here to buy the XBox 360 release for £24.99. Both are from ShopTo and sadly neither come with the guitar accessory.

NHL 2K8

NHL 2K8 is the latest in the long-running ice hockey series. This includes some new features which help to enhance an already very good gaming experience.

An all-new face-off system includes tie-ups, warnings, jostlings, and penalties. Goalies have also been improved, so that they now challenge the puck carrier, perform amazing saves, and guard the post.

Click here to buy the XBox 360 version of this game for £6.95 from The Game Collection, or click here to get the PlayStation 2 release for £9.99 from Play.com.

Wii

Every couple of weeks there’s some new Wii console deals that appear, and this time is no different. There’s still some decent Wii bundles over at Game as well.

Instore at Zavvi you can get the Wii console (which always comes bundled with Wii Sports and a Wii Remote), a Wii Nunchuk, and copies of Sonic And The Secret Rings and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz for £180.

You can also buy the Wii console, an extra Wii Remote, a Wii Nunchuk, two Wii Wheels, and copies of Mario Kart Wii and Wii Play for the slightly more expensive £235 from Zavvi.

UPDATE: On the 21st of August, Dixons started selling the Wii with a free game for £179.99. Here’s the list (click on the corresponding offer to see more details):

Wii console plus Big Beach Sports

Wii console plus Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Wii console plus Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games

Wii console plus Mario Kart Wii (with Wii Wheel)

Wii console plus Sega Superstars Tennis

Wii console plus Super Smash Brothers: Brawl

Out of that little lot, Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures, Mario Kart Wii or Super Smash Brothers: Brawl are well worth getting. Nice to see all these Wii offers around, as I expect they’ll be scarce come Christmas - again!

Also, instore at Currys you can also pick up a Wii with ANY game (excluding Wii Fit and Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock) for £179.99. This is brilliant as well.

The 24th of August sees yet another bundle making an appearance. Click here to check out the details behind the Wii console with copies of Big Beach Sports and Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games for £189.99 at Game.

Nintendo DS Lite

How can anyone not love the DS? With a great range of games available for it, as well as the ability to play GameBoy Advance titles on it, I can’t think of any other handheld console that’s been this good. It fits in your pocket as well!

Carnival: Funfair Games is a collection of mini-games that each have a carnival theme, such as Alley Bowling, Lucky Cups, Nerves Of Steel, and Hoops.

The reason I’ve mentioned both of these items is that Woolworths have a promotion running until the 25th of August, whereby you get a Nintendo DS Lite (with Carnival: Funfair Games) for £99.99 - click here for more details. You can choose from pretty much any colour of console you fancy as well.

Be aware that there are other DS Lite offers around, including the Nintendo DS Lite by itself for £89.99.

Sony PlayStation 3 Dualshock 3 Wireless Controller

When the PlayStation 3 was originally released, the only controller you could get was the SIXAXIS wireless one. It contains a battery which lasts for 30 hours before needing recharged, limited motion-sensor capabilities, and finer analog sensitivity. Sadly the rumble feedback was removed.

However, since then the Sony PlayStation 3 Dualshock 3 wireless controller has been unveiled - which is exactly the same as the SIXAXIS, but with the rumble feedback put back in. Madness, but great for any of those cheap games that you’ve bought!

Click here to get this for £24.99 from Game, when you buy it with anything else. I suggest that you get it along with this wrapping, as the total will come to £25.98.

This bank holiday weekend, The Hut 10% discount is available.

To see what decent offers they have, click here - oh and enter the code BANKHOL10 to get your saving. There’s bound to be at least one or two things worth getting.

Cars

Cars is a game based on the film of the same name, except that this is technically a sequel as it takes place after the events of the movie. The story sees Lightning McQueen preparing for and racing in the 2006 Piston Cup season.

Five chapters allow you to race against many of the other characters that you know and love from the hit Disney/Pixar film. Kids will especially enjoy this.

Click here to get the PSP version for £8.99 from SoftUK, click here to buy the DS release for £10.99 from Zavvi, or click here to get the XBox version for £11.99 from SoftUK.

Half-Life 2: The Orange Box

Half-Life 2: The Orange Box is a compilation that contains five games - namely Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode One, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2. I’m sure that these will keep you entertained for ages.

The surprise favourite from this collection is Portal, which is a puzzle game with a difference. Using the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device to create unusual physics, the goal of each level is to reach an exit point. It sounds very simple, but becomes very addictive.

Gamestation have this XBox 360 title priced at £19.99 - for more information, click here. PlayStation 3 owners can also get hold of a copy for slightly more (£20.99) as part of the Zavvi reductions from earlier this month.

Battlefield: Bad Company

Games where you can blow up pretty much anything are definitely right up my street. Judging by the sales of titles like Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, it seems that quite a few people feel the same way.

In Battlefield: Bad Company you lead a squad of AWOL soldiers against Russians, Middle Eastern Coalition troops and Legionnaire mercenaries. After you’ve had your fun in the single player campaign, take it online and battle other players all over the world.
