Wario Land: The Shake Dimension £3.99

Wario Land: The Shake Dimension is the sixth game in the Wario Land series, and the very first to appear on the Wii. After the fat evil bugger receives an antique globe and telescope, he must travel to the mysterious Shake Dimension in order to free the inhabitants from the Shake King.

It's played by holding the Wii Remote sideways and shaking it to attack enemies and perform special moves, which include grabbing items and enemies and shaking them to produce coins, and grabbing a rope flipping upwards.

Guitar Hero: World Tour is the fourth entry in the Guitar Hero series, and is the first to feature the use of drum and microphone controllers for percussion and vocal parts – along with the usual guitar bits that experienced rockers will be well used to by now.

All 86 songs in the game are master recordings, plus there absolutely tons of additional tracks that can be purchased as downloadable content which will extend the amount of play for quite some time.

Click here to get the PlayStation 3 version, or click here to get the XBox 360 release – both of which are £7.99 each at HMV. PlayStation 2 owners can click here to get their version for £14.99 from Choices UK, whilst Wii gamers can click here to get their release for £17.99, again from HMV.

Normally a game that comes out which is near-enough identical to the others in the series would be ridiculed, but in the case of Guitar Hero nobody seems to mind. And with good reason – it rocks!

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is the latest release and plays exactly the same way as the previous two Guitar Hero titles. Of course there's a whole ton of new songs to play along to, but that's the only difference. Oh, and Slash (from Guns 'N Roses and Velvet Revolver) makes an appearance.

If you fancy the XBox 360 release, click here to buy it for £7.99 from HMV. The same retailer also has the Wii (click here) version for the same price, whilst CoolShop have the PlayStation 2 (click here) release for £11.49.

The Game Group Christmas Sale is now on, with many reductions to be found across most of the major gaming platforms.

Be quick though, as stock is known to disappear very fast…

The XBox 360 Elite is definitely well worth a purchase for the more experienced gamer, as the 60GB hard drive should last a heck of a lot longer than the memory card with the XBox 360 Arcade – in fact, you'll probably end up upgrading this to 120GB at some point.

Click here to buy the system for £169.99 from HMV.

Amazon have the console available with four games and an extra controller for £194.77 – for more information, click here. The titles are Lego Batman: The Video Game and Pure (as part of the XBox Wireless Entertainment Pack), plus two more from a selection of 14.

Nintendo DS Lite Console £79.99

When the original DS was released it was rightly regarded as one of the best handheld systems to come along in some time. Not only was it quite easy to use, but the possibilities for unique gaming experiences seems almost endless.

A small complaint was that it was rather chunky, so in 2006 the Nintendo DS Lite console was born. It's much slimmer and lighter than its predecessor, and the buttons have been moved around a bit to make it even easier to use than before.

Argos have the black coloured system available for £79.99 – for more information, click here.

jOG: The Body Motion Controller £7.73

jOG: The Body Motion Controller is an add-on accessory for the Wii that gives you even more control than ever over characters on-screen – when you move, they move! One can only wonder what Nintendo developers will come up with next (my bet is a virtual stick that you can use to poke Vernon Kaye in the eye repeatedly).

Plugging straight in to your existing Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk, this is compatible with many of the top titles on the console. This link shows you which cheap games it specifically works on – keep checking it, as more are added all the time.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope £10.97

Although every other entry in the series has appeared on a Sony console, Star Ocean: The Last Hope is currently scheduled to only be released on the XBox 360. Apparently this is down to the fact that the 360 is easier to develop for – something which has been noted by one or two other companies previously.

This fifth installment features more of a science fiction emphasis than past titles, with the ability to control your own ship, and the battle system now includes four party members. Serving as a prequel, the events depicted take place a few centuries before Star Ocean in approximately the year 2097.

Click here to get this game for £10.97 from Tesco.
