Fallout 3 £11.89

The third entry in the Fallout series, Fallout 3, is perhaps the best so far. It’s an action role-playing game with open-ended gameplay and a flexible character-levelling system, which makes it a bit better than other recent entries in the genre.

It takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States in the year 2277, and you play as a member of fallout shelter Vault 101. When your father goes missing, you decided to go out into the Capital Wasteland to search for him…

Medal Of Honor: Airborne £9.43

Medal Of Honor: Airborne takes place in the European theater of World War II and is the first in the series to focus on the activities of the paratrooper division.

Single-player missions include insertions into Italy, northern France, Holland, and Germany. There’s also an online multiplayer mode where you can fight for the Allies, or for the Axis (where you defend the position from enemy paratroopers).

SimAnimals From £6.99

If you’ve been playing The Sims for some time and wondered what it would be like to control an animal-themed version, then SimAnimals could be just the game for you – it does exactly the same thing, but with a wide variety of furry creatures instead of odd people.

Challenges can be solved and goals achieved by discovering secrets, whilst forest areas can be unlocked along with one-of-a-kind objects and wild animals. Definitely something that younger gamers will be interested in then…

ShopTo have both the Wii and DS releases available at good prices – the Wii version (click here) is £6.99 and the DS one is £7.95 (click here).

Mario Kart DS £17.99

Even though it’s been out for quite some time now, Mario Kart DS is still one of the best racing games available for the handheld console. I think that being able to race other players online probably helps quite a bit, especially as you could literally do it sitting on the toilet (if you wished!).

If you’ve never played a Mario Kart title before, it involves various characters from different Mario games racing each other in go-karts on tracks themed from locations in the Mario series.

Click here to get this for £17.99 from ShopTo. Certainly one of the best cheap games on any handheld console, not just the DS.

Football Director DS £5.89

While it’s certainly fair to say that Football Director DS is by no means the best football management game on the market (that would be the Football Manager series), it’s definitely in the top one on the Nintendo DS.

All of the different kinds of options you’d expect are available, from negotiating contracts to scouting players, plus you can watch and listen to matches unfold with live commentary and crowd responses.

Burnout Paradise £12.98

If loading screens, online lobbies, and game menus are annoying to you and you enjoy racing games, then I have a feeling you’ll love Burnout Paradise – it gets rid of all the guff and gets down to business the second you put in the disc.

To start a race or event, all you have to do is pull up at a set of traffic lights which are dotted around Paradise City. There’s also the option to race on motorcycles, which you can get by downloading an update from the PlayStation Network.

CoolShop have this PS3 title available for £12.98 – for more information, click here.

Resistance: Fall Of Man is a first-person shooter set in an alternate history 1951, and puts you in the role of Sergeant Nathan Hale as he and the human resistance forces attempt to drive a mysterious alien-like invasion out of Britain.

Even though it was a launch title, this still holds up as an excellent FPS – especially in the online multiplayer mode. The sequel, Resistance 2, has since been released (and is every bit as good as the original).

Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City £18.74

After being a huge success on the GameCube and Wii, Animal Crossing makes the jump across to the Wii – and it’s every bit as good as the other entries in the series, even though there aren’t a whole lot of new features to get excited about.

Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City uses the Wii Remote to do any number of different things, such as fishing, digging and catching bugs. You can also go online and visit your friends in their own town and use the Wii Speak accessory to talk to them (how exciting).

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £18.74 from Currys. This is one of those cheap games that everyone will enjoy, particularly those of a young age.

Super Paper Mario £19

Super Paper Mario is the third game in the Paper Mario series, and the first to appear on the Wii. Unlike the other entries, this doesn’t solely rely on role-playing – elements from platform and puzzles games are used as well, to make for a more well-rounded experience.

An interesting idea used in this is the ability to "flip" from a 2D world to a 3D one, which helps you get around obstacles or find hidden items. It has to be said that this feature is overused a little, and the 3D areas are a bit barren (it’s still one of the best titles on the system though).
