XBox 360 Elite (With Resident Evil 5 And Two XBox 360 Wireless Controllers) £209.59

Whilst the XBox 360 Arcade, with Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – Game Of The Year Edition, we featured the other day is a great way to get introduced to the delights of the Microsoft console, hardcore gamers will probably be more interested in the XBox 360 Elite.

A 120GB hard drive is the major selling point of the system, but I have to admit that the black finish makes it look slightly more easy-on-the-eye than the standard white version – that could just be me though!

If you fancy an XBox 360 Elite, with Resident Evil 5 and two XBox 360 wireless controllers, click here to buy one for £209.59 from Amazon.

Nintendo Wii (With Carnival: Funfair Games And Wii Play) £172

With all this bleeding recession nonsense going on, Nintendo have decided to raise the price of the Wii by £20 from the 1st of April – you can’t blame them to be honest, as the pound is quite pathetic at the moment.

If you haven’t got one yet, every system sold comes with a copy of the fun Wii Sports and a Wii Remote. This can be played by anybody, no matter their age, as proved by all these stories you hear of old folk having a go.

Asda are selling a Nintendo Wii, with Carnival: Funfair Games and Wii Play (which comes with another Wii Remote), for £172 – click here for more details. This offer will end on Monday, by the way.

Although the Arcade is the smallest model of XBox 360 currently available, it’s very useful to both gamers on a budget and newcomers to the scene. Plus it comes with something the other versions don’t – five games (Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man and Uno).

Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – Game Of The Year Edition is pretty much the same as the regular release, except that it comes with four additional multiplayer maps. As the online mode is one of the best things about the game, this is a very welcome bonus…

Call Of Duty: World At War – Final Fronts £11.69

Although the next-generation releases are superior in terms of graphics and online multiplayer capabilities, the Call Of Duty team have still found the time to develop an exclusive PlayStation 2 version of Call Of Duty: World At War (titled Call Of Duty: World At War – Final Fronts).

This features 13 missions set near the end of World War II, and provides a "companion piece" to World At War. Aside from the two U.S. campaigns in the Pacific and Western Europe, Final Fronts also includes a third campaign involving the British advance on the River Rhine.

It’s an unfortunate fact that thus far the Wii doesn’t have too many "must have" titles available for it, although I’m sure that there will be more in the future. Maybe.

Thankfully No More Heroes falls into this bracket with some exceptional writing, witty satire, a unique visual style, excellent controls, and a very good soundtrack. The only disappointing thing is that all of the blood has been taken out, as us Europeans are a bit sensitive apparently.

Game have this Wii game available for £9.99 – for more information, click here.

Grand Theft Auto IV: Special Edition £29.99

Grand Theft Auto IV has been an incredible success since it’s release, but this should come as little surprise – the other entries in the series have been excellent in their own rights as well. New downloadable content (on the 360 release only at the moment) means this is now even better…

The Grand Theft Auto IV: Special Edition contains a copy of the game (in a safety deposit box!), an art book, a selected soundtrack CD and a Rockstar keychain all in a limited edition Rockstar Duffel Bag.

Click here to get the PlayStation 3 version for £29.99 from Play.com, or click here to buy the XBox 360 release for the same price from the same retailer.

Lair £7.99

For some people the idea of riding a dragon (steady!) sounds fascinating. If you’re one of these people then Lair might very well interest you, as the main character spends most of his time doing just that.

Rohn is a warrior who rides a dragon that has been trained for deadly aerial and ground combat, and they must work together to try and change the destiny of a world on the brink of extinction…

Sonic And The Secret Rings £8.79

Sonic And The Secret Rings sees Sonic The Hedgehog going through the stories of the Arabian Nights in order to stop an evil genie. It’s the first entry in the Storybook series, and is also the prequel to Sonic And The Black Knight.

A somewhat steep learning curve in terms of the control scheme may put some off, but great visuals and impressive difficulty make this a vast improvement on some seriously horrendous Sonic titles.

Tom Clancy’s EndWar £12.73

Getting thrust into the middle of World War III, like what happens in Tom Clancy’s EndWar,  might seem like a terrifying idea in real-life, but that’s the beauty of video games – they put you in perilous positions that you would otherwise avoid like the plague.

This PSP version loses some of the features that other console releases include, due to size limitations, but it’s still an excellent real-time tactics title. Special mention must go to the multiplayer mode, which is great fun on every platform.

The Hut have this game available for £12.73 – for more information, click here.

Metal Slug Anthology £6.73

For the Wii version of Metal Slug Anthology, publisher SNK Playmore oddly decided not to include support for the Classic Controller – a truly strange decision when you consider the fact that all six games seem tailor made for use with it.

This compilation contains direct console ports of Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug X, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug 4, Metal Slug 5, and Metal Slug 6. Also included are art and sound galleries for each release, plus a readable interview with some of the designers and programmers about the series itself.
