Halo 3 £11.99

Even though it’s been out for more than a year now, Halo 3 is still one of the most-played online multiplayer games on the XBox 360. I believe that the second one is also still the most popular online title still being played on the original XBox.

Many feared that the hype surrounding the release of the game would result in a letdown of epic proportions, but happily it’s one of the single best gaming experiences you will ever have on any console. How in the heck do they top this?!?

Battlefield: Bad Company £9.93

Battlefield: Bad Company is another first-person shooter – before you run to the hills screaming "when will it end?", I should point out that it’s actually quite good. Maybe not as good as Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but still miles better than many other games in the genre.

The single player campaign is fairly standard stuff, however it’s the online multiplayer mode where this title comes into its own. With support for up to 24 players (!), I can only imagine how great the battles are.

The Hut are selling this PlayStation 3 title for £9.93 – click here for more details.

The House Of The Dead: Overkill £9.93

Whilst rail shooters may have seemed like a thing of the past, thanks to the Wii’s unique control scheme they are now back with a vengeance. The House Of The Dead: Overkill is the latest genre release, and is perhaps the best one on the console thus far.

With fast-paced, yet simple, gameplay and an over-the-top grindhouse style this is great fun either alone or with a friend. Be warned that the profanity comes thick and fast from the moment you pop the disc in – so much so that it’s in line to receive a Guinness World Record!

Grand Theft Auto IV £14.95

After being announced some time before the game’s release, downloadable content is now available for the XBox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV next year. The first episode, titled "The Lost And The Damned", features a member of Liberty City’s biker gang, The Lost – "The Ballad Of Gay Tony" is due out in October.

Before that though, you can enjoy what the game itself has to offer. Not only is it more in-depth and time-consuming than ever before, but this is also the first in the series to feature online play – and what fun it is as well.

Ridge Racer 7 £6.99

Ridge Racer 7 is exclusive to the PlayStation 3, but other console owners needn’t worry – it’s pretty average. It was one of the launch games, so it’s fair to cut it a little slack.

Choose from about 40 different cars to race around 22 courses, and then take it online and beat your friends. Heck, beat your enemies while you’re at it!

HMV have this game available for £6.99 – for more information, click here.

Kung Fu Panda £7.97

Kung Fu Panda is based on the film of the same name, and is aimed squarely at children. Progressing through the game unlocks more characters for you to control and use in the multiplayer modes.

As with many titles that have been released recently, this comes with a fair amount of mini-games to take part in. Even more characters can be unlocked when taking part in these as well.

Woolworths Entertainment are selling this PS3 title for £7.97 – click here for more details. Definitely one of those cheap games that adults will probably enjoy just as much as kids.

Skate 2 £13.99

If the success of Skate took you by surprise, then imagine what the developers at E.A. thought – they initially predicted fewer sales than Tony Hawk’s Proving Ground, only to beat it by quite some way on both the PlayStation 3 and XBox 360.

Skate 2 takes everything that was great about the game and improves upon it. There’s more tricks to pull off, the ability to choose your character’s sex, the ability to create your own "spots" to perform stunts on, and you can now edit your skateboard and clothing to your heart’s content.

Click here to get the PlayStation 3 release, or click here to buy the XBox 360 version – both of which are £13.99 each at Powerplay Direct.

John Woo Presents: Stranglehold £4.99

It’s interesting to note that John Woo Presents: Stranglehold is quite unique, in that it’s actually the sequel to Hong Kong action film "Hard Boiled". Chow Yun-Fat even returns as Inspector "Tequila" Yuen, which marks the first time Woo and Chow have collaborated since the movie was made.

The game itself is pretty darn good, especially if you’re a bloke! Although it can get a little repetitive, the story stays true to the style of John Woo’s work and the battles are very, very enjoyable – it looks absolutely brilliant as well.

Play.com are selling this PS3 title for £4.99 – click here for more details. Definitely one of those cheap games that lovers of shot-em-ups will enjoy.

Sega Mega Drive: Ultimate Collection £14.99

For those of us who remember the days of ridiculously difficult games and blowing into cartridges to make them work properly, the Sega Mega Drive: Ultimate Collection is a joy to behold. Containing a total of 40 classics (including most of the Sonic titles), this is great stuff.

Also included are a further nine games to unlock, two of which are Sega Master System titles in the form of Golden Axe Warrior and Phantasy Star. You’ll also find some interviews with the developers behind some of the games, some of whom are as dull as dishwater I’m afraid!
