Cheap Games

Battlestations: Pacific £22.99

While it’s true that there quite a few real-time strategy games on the market, not many are as unique as the Battlestations series – where else can you take command of the air, sea, and submarine forces, and plan attacks against enemies right down to the most minute detail?

Battlestations: Pacific is the sequel to Battlestations: Midway, and expands on the original by adding many new combat features. Island invasions and new weapons, planes and ships will all help you as you fight between the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the Battle of Okinawa in 1945.

Gamestation have this XBox 360 title available for £22.99 – for more information, click here.

Little King’s Story £16.95

Little King’s Story is a simulation role-playing game in which you play as a timid boy named Corobo Bred who has found a mysterious crown which gives him the ability to charm people and make them follow orders – as King, his goal is to expand the village and make his subjects happy.

Mixing elements of Animal Crossing, Pikmin and World Of Warcraft together results in one of the most entertaining gaming experiences you’ll have this year. Although the cover art would have you believe this is another shovelware offering for the console, trust me when I say this is as good (if not better) than anything else on the Wii.

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £16.95 from Zavvi. Definitely one of the best cheap games I’ve played on the Wii this year, so this comes highly recommended.

XBox 360 120GB Hard Drive £67.99

It’s very annoying the amount of money Microsoft feel they have to charge for more hard drive space, but if you want to upgrade your XBox 360 then sadly you have no choice.

The XBox 360 120GB hard drive should provide more than enough space to store stuff on, as it’s the same size as the one you get with an Elite console and double the size of the Premium one.

Argos are selling this for £67.99 – click here for more details.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Uncaged Edition £29.99

Many gamers shudder at the very thought of playing a title based on a movie, but some thankfully X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Uncaged Edition manages to surprise everyone in that it’s actually incredibly decent. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come (even though Terminator: Salvation was a big pile of toilet)…

Some repetitive bosses might irritate some, but the stunning graphics and huge amount of near non-stop action will leave you feeling mighty satisfied once you’ve completed the game.

More Brain Training From Dr Kawashima: How Old Is Your Brain? is the second title in the DS series which aims to improve your brain’s responsiveness through the completion of a range of different minigames that have been designed to test your intelligence to its maximum level.

You also get 100 sudoku puzzles, much like in Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain?, which get harder as you progress. Actually, everything on this seems much harder than the original – even these sudoku puzzles appear to be more taxing!

If you fancy this, click here to buy it for £9.99 from Tesco.

Considering that the original version of Burnout Paradise is still selling for around the £20 mark, the Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box and Trivial Pursuit double pack at £14.47 should be a bit of a Billy bargain in anyone’s book.

Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box comes with everything the normal copy has, along with every piece of downloadable content that has been released so far (minus the forthcoming "Cops & Robbers" pack). Trivial Pursuit does exactly what it says on the tin, by providing a video game interpretation of the classic board game.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves is a party video game which is built around a collection of microgames that last around five seconds each, and which require that the player hold the Wii Remote in specific positions – these are divided into several stages that are loosely connected through a bizarre story.

Although this is very entertaining and looks very impressive as well, some gamers may be disappointed with how long each session lasts. However, the unpredicability factor (you quite literally won’t know what’s coming up next) will definitely keep you coming back for more.

Guitar Hero II £11.49

The XBox 360 version of Guitar Hero II contains some extra songs not found on the PlayStation 2 version, as well as even more than can be downloaded from the XBox 360 Marketplace.

Sadly this doesn’t come with the guitar accessory, but I strongly suggest that you try and get hold of one as it adds an extra element to an already fantastic game. In fact, it makes this into one of the very best gaming experiences that you will ever have – ever!

Test Drive Unlimited is the ninth entry in one of the longest-running video game franchises of all time, and features over 125 different licensed sports cars and motorcycles – along with a terrain modeled after the Hawaiian island of Oahu which includes some 1000 miles of roads and highways.

Although the Sony console versions are slightly lacking in the graphics department, you do get Master Points and use of the Auto GPS function. There are also more radio stations to listen to that feature many exclusive instrumental tracks in order to the licensed music.

Tony Hawk’s Motion (With Motion Pack And Hue: Pixel Painter) £2.99

It’s worth pointing out straight away that if you own a DSi, Tony Hawk’s Motion will not work on it – the removal of the GameBoy Advance slot means that you can’t use the accessory supplied with the game to let you play it (much like the case with the Guitar Hero titles on the DS).

Tony Hawk’s Motion, with a Motion Pack and a copy of Hue: Pixel Painter (a small painting game thrown in for nowt), sees you physically move your handheld console in order to move your character on the screen. If there is one negative about this experience, it’s that you might very well end up accidentally smacking someone in the face!

Click here to buy this for just £2.99 from Play.com.
