Cheap Games

Without a shadow of a doubt, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the best game to be released in 2009 (yes, even Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 isn't as good), and it's also probably the greatest PlayStation 3 title full stop up to this point.

Picking up two years after the events of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, you again take control of Nathan Drake as he goes on another quest for adventure – this time involving the doomed voyage home of Marco Polo from China in 1292…

Infamous is the story of Cole, a bike messenger given an assignment to deliver a package that is secretly a bomb. After surviving the massive explosion and developing electricity-based powers (as you do), he soon discovers that his city has fallen into chaos under the rule of gangs and factions – he must fight back against them to restore order to a once peaceful place…

Reviews have been excellent, with some going as far to say that this is one of the best PlayStation 3 titles released so far. With epic battles aplenty and an open world which can be destroyed, if you choose, they could very well be right in this proclamation.

Magna Carta II £9.99

Technically the third entry in the series (Magna Carta: The Phantom of Avalanche and Magna Carta: Crimson Stigmata were released previously), Magna Carta II is also the very first to appear on a seventh generation console – which is nice.

In this role-playing game you play as a male character called Juto, who can't remember anything about his past. The fact that he's in the war-torn Lanzheim Continent probably won't make his life any easier, to be honest…

Play.com have this XBox 360 title available for £9.99 – for more information, click here.

New Super Mario Brothers £18.85

Taking insipration from the very first Super Mario Brothers game on the NES, New Super Mario Brothers will delight both old and new fans alike. Elements from later Mario titles are also incorporated, making this feel almost like a "best of" compilation type thing.

As well as 80 levels, divided by eight world, to complete in the single player mode, there's also 18 mini-games to play either alone or with a friend. A fairly limited multiplayer option is included too, which sees you racing to collect more Big Stars than your opponent.

After teasing us with some footage in 2008, EyePet has finally arrived – bringing with it a virtual pet that interacts with people and objects in the real world, through the use of augmented reality (basically the merging of physical real-world elements with virtual computer-generated imagery).

Although technically not really a game, more like an animal simulation in the same genre as Nintendogs, you can actually get new looks from the Pet Centre or buy new toys to keep your pet entertained.

If you fancy EyePet, with a PlayStation Eye Camera and Magic Card, click here to buy it for £19.85 from ShopTo.

The long wait for Ghostbusters fans is over, as the long-awaited Ghostbusters: The Video Game has gone on to become the greatest title based on the franchise. And after Dan Akroyd initially announced this as being the nearest we'll ever get to Ghostbusters 3, rumors pop up that a genuine film is now in the works as well – happy days!

All four of the guys are back, but so too are some of their greatest villains (including the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and the librarian from the start of the first film). You join the team as a new fifth member, and must help to save New York once more…

Wii Speak is a microphone accessory for the Nintendo Wii that can be placed near the video display to allow voice chat to be conducted with the entire room – the only drawback being that it will only work on a very select number of games at the moment.

Actually, only a total of eight games are compatible (including Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City, The Conduit and Monster Hunter Tri), with The Grinder and The Conduit 2 planning to make full use of the device when they are released.

Hell must have frozen over, because, believe it or not, there's been a Need for Speed title created that's actually very good – Need for Speed: Shift is probably one of the best racing games in 2009. I think I need a lie down!…

The change to simulation racing and realistic drifting from arcade racing has been a good decision, as the cars feel a lot better than before. The stupid "street racing" formula has been removed as well, with emphasis going on a true driving experience (why they couldn't have done it sooner, I don't know).

Way of the Samurai 3 £17.99

Way of the Samurai 3 is the third entry (surprise, surprise) in the Way of the Samurai series, but is relatively unknown outside of its native Japan. The fact that not too many Western reviewers have bothered to even mention this as being out might have something to do with this…

Anyway, you play as a nameless ronin who can choose to fight alongside good or evil during the tumultuous time of the Sengoku era, carving your name into history along the way. Though the graphics have been criticised somewhat, this shouldn't stop you from enjoying an excellent title from the same studio behind No More Heroes.

HMV have both the XBox 360 (click here) and PlayStation 3 (click here) releases available for £17.99 each.
