FIFA 09 From £17.98

For the first time in absolutely ages, FIFA has surpassed Pro Evolution – at least, that’s my opinion after playing both (albeit on the PS3, so other console versions could differ).

It’s difficult to put my finger on why it’s won this time, but FIFA 09 just "feels" more realistic than ever before. Sadly, PES 2009: Pro Evolution Soccer still has the faults of the last one, right down to the laggy online mode.

Click here to get the PlayStation 2 version for £17.98, or click here to buy the Wii release for £24.98 – both of which are supplied by Amazon. Meanwhile over at Game you can get the DS (click here) or PSP (click here) versions for £17.99 each.

The DS Lite deals are coming thick and fast now, so it seems like the ideal time to pick one up before the mad rush for Christmas begins.

Yesterday we featured the Nintendo DS Lite with a free title from a limited selection, and today it’s the Nintendo DS Lite with free Brain Training.

Amazon have either the red (click here) or turquoise (click here) coloured consoles available in this offer. Be sure to scroll down the page at the Amazon site for more details.

I’m a big, big fan of the DS as the amount of decent games available for it rivals any of the other consoles, which is very impressive for a handheld system.

If you have any GameBoy Advance games, you can also play them on it as well. I should also point out that the new DSi (due out next year) will be getting rid of this ability, a stupid decision if ever I saw one – it will also stop you from playing Guitar Hero: On Tour, which is frankly unacceptable.

Play.com have the Red (click here), Green (click here), or Turquoise (click here) consoles available for £89.99 each. These Nintendo DS Lites all come with a free title, from a limited selection of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, or Heroes Of Mana.

The XBox 360 Arcade bundle is the smallest of the three that you can get, but it does come with five titles from the XBox Live Marketplace – namely Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man and Uno.

Microsoft are also still giving owners of this console the opportunity to get an XBox 360 20GB hard drive for the bargain price of £12.99, which is nice of them.

Instore at Zavvi you can get the XBox 360 Arcade, with two games, for £130. The two titles in question are rather good too, being that they are Halo 3 and Lost Odyssey.

The main thing that you need to know about Guitar Hero: On Tour is that the Guitar Grip provided is quite difficult to hold for long periods of time, and can even cause cramp (in extreme cases). That being said, it’s still as much fun as the other versions available for bigger consoles.

An impressive tracklist that includes such songs as "All The Small Things" by Blink-182 and "Rock And Roll All Nite" by Kiss more than makes up for any faults, although it would have been nice to see some online play.

Pop in toy our nearest Tesco and pick up this DS game for £22.71. It definitely is one of those cheap games that will keep you coming back for more, even with the pain you might suffer!

Canis Canem Edit £4.99

Canis Canem Edit (better known as Bully) is a third-person action-adventure game in the same mould as the Grand Theft Auto series, except that this is set in a school.

You control difficult student Jimmy Hopkins, and must explore the school campus (and later the local town) or complete the main missions. I should probably warn you that there is a bit of schoolwork involved, although this really only amounts to pushing buttons in the correct order or unscrambling words.

If you fancy this PlayStation 2 title, click here to get it for £4.99 from Game. Wii owners might be interested in the updated version, known as Bully: Scholarship Edition, which is still £13 (or less) at ShopTo.

It’s a little surprising to see so many decent console bundles around this close to Christmas, but I’m not complaining for a second – not least because I’m sure that we’ll hear of stock shortages in the next month or two.

I’m also going to do something that’s very rare on the Internet and give Microsoft some praise, as they recently bumped the size of the hard drive in the Premium system from 20GB up to 60GB.

Instore at Gamestation you can pick up an XBox 360 60GB Premium (with Fable II and FIFA 09) for £179.99. Anyone after a bigger console could go for the XBox 360 Elite with two games (the same ones as this package actually), as it’s still £229.99 at HMV.

Fans of old school Mario will love New Super Mario Brothers on the DS, as it’s inspired by the original New Super Mario Brothers game. Elements from later Mario games are also included, so there’s something for everyone here.

Tons of mini-games can be found on the cartridge as well, which can either be played alone or against a friend (although not online sadly). If you have a copy of Mario 64 DS you may recognise some of them, as Nintendo have been lazy and simply copied a few of them over!

Click here to buy this DS title for £18.97 from Tesco. Remember to enter the voucher code Freedel at the checkout to get postage for nothing.

With downloadable content on the way very soon, the XBox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV is ever so slightly better than the PS3 one. That being said, it really wouldn’t surprise me to see the stuff appear on the PlayStation Network at some point in the future as well.

There’s not really much more I can tell you about the game that you probably don’t already know, but I will say to look out for a couple of things – Ricky Gervais in the comedy club, and the ability to turn into a zombie!

HMV are selling this title for £24.99 – for more information, click here.

If there’s one criticism you could have about the Pro Evolution series, it’s that they haven’t yet got the online multiplayer mode quite right. That’s really the only thing that stops PES 2009: Pro Evolution Soccer from being "excellent" rather than "great".

Two new modes are included with this year’s entry, in the form of UEFA Champions League (complete with all the elements and attributes of the competition) and "Become A Legend" – the latter being a brilliant idea, as you control one player throughout his career.

Click here to get the PlayStation 3 release, or click here for the XBox 360 version – both of which are £27.99 each at HMV.
