Currys Instore Game Sale

There’s a Currys instore game sale that looks excellent, with titles reduced across pretty much every format.

I should point out that stocks will probably be quite low, so act quickly!

P.S. I’d love to make a list of everything that’s included, but sadly I’d be here all day – trust me when I say that you want to check it out though. Additionally, any game that has a price ending in .97 is included (so get them to scan it, as chances are high that you’ll get it for less than the stickered price).

UPDATE: Thought I would bump this up a bit, as it’s still running. Some stuff that I’ve seen available include a white PSP-1000 for £69.95, Ace Combat 6: Fires Of Liberation on the XBox 360 for £9.99, and The Incredible Hulk on the Wii for £9.97.

There’s also an identical sale at PC World, with practically the same stuff available for the same prices.

de Blob £17

In more proof that journalists are a lazy bunch of idiots who seemingly don’t know their arse from their elbow, the normally reliable CVG reported the other day that they were shocked to learn that you could get de Blob for the PC for free – even though the world and his dog know that THQ picked it up and morphed it into a Wii title.

The game lets you explore and liberate a city from an evil bunch of wrong ‘uns. Playing as de Blob, you embark on a quest to re-animate the city of Chroma and its inhabitants by splattering everything with colour – there’s a multiplayer option too, but sadly no sign of online action.

Instore at Asda you can get this Wii game for £17, until the 23rd of October.

Trackmania DS £17.99

The original Trackmania was an exciting and fun driving game, and Trackmania DS promises to be more of the same – plus a whole lot more. It’s quite an interesting title actually, as it combines elements from puzzle games to give a very unique experience unlike any other racing game.

Along with the three single player modes there’s a multiplayer option, although there’s sadly no online mode (for shame). An excellent track editor is also included, which means that you should never really tire of it.

As the DS uses a stylus to control things, it’s inevitable that painting titles would appear. Paint By DS challenges you to recreate classic artworks using the stylus, from artists including Van Gogh and Cezanne.

There’s a total of 15 different paintings to complete, each of which has their own level of difficulty. Reviews have been mixed, probably because you need a bit of interest in fine art to appreciate what you’re doing.

Pop in to your nearest Asda and pick this DS game up for just £8.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men £9.73

Sometimes reviewers can be so overly critical of games that almost everyone gets a negative opinion of it, as is the case with Kane & Lynch: Dead Men. OK, it’s not the best thing since sliced bread – but it is a somewhat enjoyable co-operative action game.

Two men bound by circumstance as they wait on death row for their final sentence are forced to team up on a violent and chaotic journey, hating each other every step of the way. Play this before the film comes out and ruins any lingering memories that you have/had.

Sony PSP 3000 (With Two Games) £149.89

PSP owners complained for some time that the original design was a bit too chunky, so Sony went down the same route Nintendo did with the DS and released a slimmer version.

The PSP Slim And Lite was 33% lighter and 22% slimmer, but this wasn’t enough – so they also manufactured the Sony PSP 3000. It has an improved LCD screen and built-in microphone, and also has slightly modified buttons (start and select have changed from semi-circles to ovals).

Gamestation have two decent bundles available for £149.89:

PSP 3000 with FIFA 09 plus another selected title (from Buzz! Quiz Master, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, LocoRoco, Need For Spped: Carbon, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and Tekken: Dark Resurrection)

PSP 3000 with Lego Batman: The Video Game plus another selected title (from Buzz! Quiz Master, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, LocoRoco, Need For Spped: Carbon, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, and Tekken: Dark Resurrection)

With the massive hype before it’s release there was a danger that Grand Theft Auto IV could have been a huge letdown. Thankfully, it’s turned out to be the best in the series and quite possibly the best game of 2008.

It’s set in a redesigned version of the fictional Liberty City, which strongly resembles modern day New York City. You play as Niko Bellic, a war veteran from Eastern Europe, who comes in search of the American Dream but quickly becomes entangled in a seedy underworld of gangs, crime, and corruption.

Click here to get the PS3 version, or click here for the XBox 360 release – both of which are £19.99 each at Play.com. There is a slight difference between these two cheap games, in that the 360 version has downloadable content coming soon (although it wouldn’t surprise me to see it appear on the PS3 at a later date).

The XBox 360 Elite console is considered the top-end of the market, as it is the one with the most amount of hard drive space – it’s also the most expensive of the three systems, but you’re paying for a genuinely top quality item.

It differs from the others by coming in a black finish, and also has a massive 120GB hard drive which should provide you with more than enough space for downloads and game saves.

There’s a couple of XBox 360 Elite bundles available for £249.99 at Play.com. Click here to buy the one with copies of Fable II and Fallout 3, or click here for the other one which has copies of Fable II and FIFA 09.

We’ve had Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones games, and now it’s time for potentially the best idea so far – Lego Batman! Here’s hoping they can come up with more titles that have their tongue firmly planted in their cheek (X-Men would be good *hint* *hint*).

In Lego Batman: The Video Game you can fight as either heroes or villains on land, sea, and in the air using all types of different vehicles. There’s a total of 30 levels to explore (15 for the heroes, and 15 for the villains), as well as some secret levels that are unlocked as you progress.

Click here to get the PlayStation 3 release for £24.49 from Powerplay Direct.

They may be slightly later to the party than HMV or Play.com, but the Zavvi games clearout is possibly the best of the bunch.
