Boom Blox £9.99

When it was announced in 2005 that Steven Spielberg would be teaming up with Electronic Arts to produce three video games, many were surprised that the first release would be puzzler Boom Blox.

The surprise soon turned to rave reviews, as many enjoyed the physics-based puzzles that proved both challenging and replayable. In addition to the 300 single player levels, there are also over 100 co-operative and competitive levels available in Party Mode.

It’s quite unique, in that it comes with five XBox Live Marketplace titles (Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man and Uno), but doesn’t include a hard drive.

Dragon Quest: The Chapters Of The Chosen £9.73

Dragon Quest: The Chapters Of The Chosen is an updated version of the NES classic Dragon Warrior IV, which was never released in Europe. This differs from other entries in the series by breaking up the game into five chapters – the first four being told from the perspective of the Hero’s future companions, and the fifth brining all of the characters together as they try to save the world.

The game has been remade in 3D, featuring smoother graphics than previous versions, and the sound has been updated to sound more orchestral. Two bonus chapters and a new town can also be found.

Chrono Trigger £14.99

After a wait of just over 13 years, Chrono Trigger is finally getting ready for release for the very first time in Europe. This role-playing game is often mentioned as being one of the best titles ever produced on the Super Nintendo, so it’s quite apt that the DS will give us all an opportunity to bask in its greatness.

The story of a group of young adventurers who travel through time to prevent a global catastrophe alone is engaging, whilst an excellent soundtrack keeps you motivated to carry on. A brand new dungeon and an online battle arena add new dimensions to a timeless classic.

Saints Row 2 £17.99

While the Grand Theft Auto series has strived for realism, Saints Row 2 goes completely the opposite way. If you enjoy blowing stuff up and just generally having a fair amount of mindless fun, it will quickly become a firm favourite in your collection.

One of the strongest features of the game is the amount of customisation you can do. The character you control can be changed in fine detail (right down to any tattoos or underwear that takes your fancy), as too can your "crib" – which means upgradeable televisions, pool tables, and minibars.

To get the PlayStation 3 release for £17.99 from Play.com, simply click here. XBox 360 owners can buy their version of Saints Row 2 for £17.97 from Tesco.

Click here to get the XBox 360 version for £17.93 from The Hut. As far as cheap games of the footy variety go, this is the king of the mountain at the moment – until FIFA 10 comes out…
