Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is an on-rails shooter which focuses on retelling the events of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica – much like Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles did with Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

It's actually quite a deceptive game, in that whilst the controls are simple to pick up any difficulty level above "Easy" should prove more than a challenge for even the most experienced of gamers.

Amazon have Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, with a Wii Zapper, available for £14.99 – for more information, click here (it's on the right hand side, under "More Buying Choices").

Nier £9.99

Set a thousand years after the events depicted in one of the endings of PlayStation 2 title Drakengard, Nier is a role-playing game that sees you play as the title character who uses his sword to perform combo attacks on his enemies – as well as a grimoire to shoot projectiles for a short period of time.

Though reviews have been mixed, to say the least, it's worth noting that if you're a fan of Japanese role-players that you'll definitely enjoy this – it's also got quite a nice soundtrack (whether this is enough to warrant a purchase is entirely up to you).

UFC Undisputed 2010 is the second game to appear from the mixed martial arts group on next-generation consoles – and is even better than UFC Undisputed 2009 (thanks to some excellent new additions and gameplay tweaks).

The controls have been tightened up, with the clinch and ground grappling being completely redesigned, plus the career mode has been greatly improved too. Cage walls can also be used now as well, and a few new fighting styles have been included for the first time (Karate, Greco-Roman wrestling and Sambo).

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger isn't just another lackluster entry in the 2D fighting genre, as it has both an excellent online mode and, more surprisingly, a plot which is well-conceived – a rarity no matter which country you're in (this is a Japanese fighter, by the way).

This home console version of the game also comes with considerably more content than its arcade counterpart. Not only can you switch between Japanese and English voices and enjoy new music and animations, but there also some brand new "instant kill" moves unlockable for every character.

Tekken 6 is the latest installment in the long-running fighting series, and the first to appear outside of the PlayStation brand – although it's still staying somewhat faithful to the brand by being on the PSP and PS3 (how nice of the developers!).

More characters than ever appear in this, with a total of 42 – of which 31 have previously been seen before. Online multiplayer has also been included for the first time in Tekken history, which helps to make this one of the best fighting games available at the moment.

Darksiders £10.93

Taking its inspiration from the apocalypse, Darksiders is an action adventure game where you play as "War" (one of the members of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse) – Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard also make appearances… sorry, terrible joke!

After being deceived by the forces of evil into prematurely bringing about the end of the world, you must return to Earth to search for the truth and punish those responsible. With a sequel and a film being planned, I'm sure this franchise will become even bigger in the future too…

Halo 3: ODST is an expansion pack for the first-person shooter Halo 3. Originally this was going to be an add-on for Halo 3, but developers Bungie have instead decided to make it a stand-alone title (which means you don't need to already own Halo 3 in order to play) – much to the irritation of gamers who believed that it would possibly be available as downloadable content.

Although bearing a strong resemblance to other entries in the Halo series, in this one you don't play as Master Chief – you are in control of a lone Orbital Drop Ship Trooper in the city of New Mombasa, East African Protectorate (formerly Kenya).

Aliens vs. Predator is an action game which pits two of the most fearsome characters in cinematic history (Aliens and Predators, surprisingly enough) against one another – with a bunch of Colonial Marines caught in between them.

The three campaigns, one for each race/faction, have very different plots and gameplay elements, but combine together in one overarching storyline. A multiplayer mode is also included, which is pretty good fun at times (even if reviewers have criticised it somewhat).

Batman: Arkham Asylum is without question the very best Batman video game ever made – and is also one of the very best full stop to be released in 2009 (which is impressive, when you consider it was up against stiff competition in the form of Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted 2).

Anyway, the Batman: Arkham Asylum – Game of the Year Edition not only comes with the excellent full game, but all of the downloadable content as well. There's also a brand new 3D mode included plus two pairs of glasses to get the most out of this interesting addition.
