Cheap Games

Genji: Days Of The Blade is based on the PS2 title Genji, and is set three years after the events of that game. Sadly this PlayStation 3 game suffers from being one of the first on the system – impressive graphics, but a distinct lack of gameplay value let it down badly.

It’s your typical "hack and slash" type game, with many enemies to defeat. However, some shoddy camera-work can at times leave you a bit peeved off! It is cheap though…

Comet have this title priced at just £4.99 – click here for more details (and use the "Collect from store" delivery option to save on postage). Not one of those cheap games that I can recommend, I’m afraid.

I’ve always enjoyed the 2D versions of Castlevania, but the 3D titles have been quite disappointing. It’s good news then that Castlevania: Portrait Of Ruin goes back to what the series does best – scrolling 2D fun-time action!

You can control two different characters (vampire hunter Jonathan Morris and Charlotte Orlean, a young girl with magical abilities) who must thwart the attempts to rebuild Dracula’s castle and unleash a reign of evil upon an unsuspecting world.

Dark Sector £17.92

There’s a fair few first-person shooters around, many of which are extremely average. Dark Sector is another one of these average games – even though it does have a somewhat interesting story.

Hayden Tenno has been sent on an assassination trip (sounds like fun), but is attacked by some unseen enemy. He awakens to find that he has inhuman powers – now he must evolve with these abilities and become a hero.

UPDATE: Some PlayStation 2 titles were added on the 2nd of July.

On the 8th of July a whole ton of new games appeared – I must admit that the Wii games for £9.99 each are great value.

Some notable titles appeared on the 10th of July. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Army Of Two are among them.

The 12th of July saw some more games added. UEFA Euro 2008 has started being reduced, I see. Not surprising really.

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots £29.92

One of the best gaming series’, in my opinion anyway, has been the Metal Gear series. Great stories combined with some great gameplay equals great games – great!

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots is allegedly the last time we will see Solid Snake, but what a final game to appear in! The single player campaign has a gripping storyline, and the new addition of Metal Gear Online (which will have updates throughout the year) is brilliant.

UPDATE: Puzzle Quest and Project Gotham Racing 3 added.

If you didn’t already know, Game also own Gameplay and they too have a sale on (click here to see it) – as most of the stuff is the same (as you’d expect), I’ve included the price at Gameplay if it’s cheaper.

July the 11th saw a whole ton of extra stuff added. Alone In The Dark and Lost: The Video Game look particularly good value.

The House Of The Dead: 2 & 3 Return was added on the 12th of July.

The Play-Asia summer sale has started. They are an Asian (surprisingly enough) supplier who sell video games, DVDs, books and gadgets – some of which we can’t get in this country.

This is a slightly different kind of sale, in that everything in stock has 25% off. I’d avise not getting any PlayStation related material, as chances are high that they won’t sell it to you (some nonsense to do with Sony banning anyone importing from Asia, or something).

Please remember that if you do decide to pick up anything, customs charges may be applied if you spend more than £18.

Click here to visit the site.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 £2.99

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 was the first of the series to appear on a next-generation console. With improved graphics and a good choice of teams to choose from, it’s still pretty darn good.

The great element added to this release was the online multiplayer mode. Although there’s a small amount of lag (jerkiness in the screen for those of a non-technical persuasion), it’s not enough to take anything away from the enjoyment factor.

Click here to get this XBox 360 title for the ridiculously low price of only £2.99 from DVD.co.uk.

The Club £9.99

I think that people have been a little bit harsh about The Club – it’s not the most brain-taxing game in the world, but it’s very simple to pick up and play. What can be easier than shooting anyone that moves?

As it’s by the creators of the Project Gotham Racing series, you can expect a polished look. This, combined with an excellent online multiplayer deathmatch mode, makes for a game that I personally enjoy. I’m sure you will too.

To get the PS3 version click here, and for the XBox 360 release click here – both of which are £9.99 each at Comet (choose the "Collect from store" option to save on postage).
