Cheap Games

After letting you know about the Currys instore games sale t’other day, I thought I’d also mention that there’s now a PC World games sale with exactly the same titles at exactly the same prices.

What’s the money on Dixons being next?

The HMV October game sale has started, and September hasn’t even finished yet. I won’t complain though, as there are some decent bargains to be had.

Here’s the best of the bunch.

DS

Guitar Hero: On Tour £24.99
Top Spin 3 £15.99
Top Trumps: Dogs & Dinosaurs £7.99

PS2

Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition Of The Illuminus £7.99
Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge Of The Sith £6.99

PSP

Avatar: The Legend Of Aang £8.99

Wii

George Of The Jungle £9.99
Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock (With Wireless Guitar) £40 (Instore only)

XBox 360

Halo 3: Legendary Edition £29.99 (Instore only)

The best deals look like Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock on the Wii, or Guitar Hero: On Tour for the DS.

UPDATE: A few titles have been added (and removed), but nothing of any real significance.

Diddy Kong Racing DS £10.99

Diddy Kong Racing on the Nintendo 64 drew comparisons with Mario Kart for some very obvious reasons – both feature characters driving carts, as well as items which can be used in order to cheat win.

Diddy Kong Racing DS is a remake of this game and has a number of new features. The planes and carts are much easier to control than before, Conker the Squirrel and Banjo the Bear have been added, tracks have been updated, and there’s a brand-new option to create your very own tracks to race on.

If you fancy this DS title, click here to get it for £10.99 from SoftUK.

For anyone who’s been on Mars and doesn’t know what the Wii is, it’s a console that has revolutionised the way that we play games. Instead of using a pad, you use a stick (the Wii Remote) which can act like a sword or tennis racket – or many other things if you think about it.

I’ll admit that there isn’t a huge variety of great titles to choose from, but families will definitely love this as anyone can play. Controls are very simple to pick up on, so much so that elderly people have been known to use them in nursing homes! Mental!

Click here to buy the Wii (with Wii Sports) for £159.99 from ShopTo.

The purpose of the XBox 360 Wireless Network Adapter is to allow you to connect to XBox Live without having loads of wires all over the place. This becomes especially useful if your 360 is kept in a bedroom for peace and quiet when you play any cheap games you buy.

Usually this accessory is very expensive, but Game have an offer running where you get it for £44.99 when buying anything else. Simply add this wrapping to your order to meet this requirement.

However, we can get it even lower than this by entering the voucher code NW04GME4 at the checkout – this knocks £3 off, and brings the total to a respectable £42.98. Click here to get this.

Mario Kart has been a staple on every Nintendo console since it first appeared way back in 1992 with Super Mario Kart on the SNES. Mario Kart Wii is the newest title in the series, and is also the first console version (excluding the DS handheld game Mario Kart DS) to feature online multiplayer racing goodness.

Up to 12 people can compete online and you’re not only restricted to karts any more, as motorbikes are now selectable vehicles. 26 characters and 12 tracks mean that I doubt you’ll get bored of this quickly, especially if you get friends round (or online!).

Even though a bigger 80GB version has been released fairly recently, the PlayStation 3 40GB console should still have enough hard drive space to satisfy the ardent gamer.

With an ever-growing impressive list of titles available for the system, it’s fair to say that the PS3 has overcome it’s initial problems and cemented itself as one of the best consoles around.

With a price-drop happening this past Friday, there’s been a fair few decent deals appeared both online and on the high street. Because of this, I’ve titled this post "the most XBox 360 console offers in the world…ever!" – and I’m not joking.

I’ve separated the deals out into three different sections – one for the Arcade, one for the Premium, and one for the Elite.

The XBox 360 Arcade is the most basic of all packages available, as it doesn’t come with a hard drive. What you do get though is a 256MB memory unit, a wireless controller, and five free games from the XBox Live Marketplace.

Titles included are Boom Boom Rocket, Feeding Frenzy, Luxor 2, Pac-Man and Uno.

Game have a few different packages available for £129.99:

XBox 360 Arcade with Battlefield: Bad Company

XBox 360 Arcade with Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

XBox 360 Arcade with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09

XBox 360 Arcade with Viva Piñata: Trouble In Paradise

Instore at Blockbuster you can get the system with a copy of Mercenaries 2: World In Flames for £139.98. They also have the Arcade together with any other game for £149.99.

Finally, Amazon have a few bundles of their own. Click here to buy the console by itself for £119.98, or to have a look at the other deals that have at the moment (including Gears Of War or Halo 3 for £10, or a selected title for £20 when you buy the system).

When the XBox 360 Premium was originally released it came with a 20GB hard drive. Not too long ago though Microsoft decided to bump it up to a 60GB hard drive, which means more space to store useless crap useful stuff.

This also comes with a wireless controller, a built-in upscaling DVD player, and an XBox Live headset.

Argos have the console with a copy of Halo 3 priced at £169.97 – click here for more details (click on the "Special offers" tab to get it).

Instore at Blockbuster you can get the system with a copy of Mercenaries 2: World In Flames for £179.98. They also have the Premium together with any other game for £189.99.

Pop in to Gamestation and pick up the console with a choice of 2 free titles for £169.89. Games to choose from include Dead Or Alive 4, Forza Motorsport 2, Halo 3, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, and Too Human.

Click here to get the system by itself for £159.98 from Amazon. This link will also take to you to a page where you can get Gears Of  War or Halo 3 for £10, or a choice of selected game for an extra £20.

The top-end choice for XBox 360 gamers is the XBox 360 Elite. It comes all in black, and features a huge 120GB hard drive – the rest of it is essentially the same as the Premium.

I realise it can be a little confusing with all the different packages available, but I would recommend this one to the serious gamer only (the Arcade is suitable for newcomers, and the Premium is for everyone else).

Instore at Blockbuster you can get the system with a copy of Mercenaries 2: World In Flames for £239.98. They also have the Premium together with any other game for £249.99.

Pop in to Gamestation and pick up the console with a choice of 2 free titles for £229.99. Games to choose from include Dead Or Alive 4, Forza Motorsport 2, Halo 3, Lost Odyssey, Mass Effect, and Too Human. Alternatively, they also have a deal where you get the XBox 360 Wireless Network Adaptor and a 3 month subscription to XBox Live for the same price (instead of getting any games).

To buy the system by itself for £219.98 from Amazon, click here. This link takes you to a page that lists all of their XBox 360 Elite deals (including Gears Of War or Halo 3 for £10, or a selected title for £20 when you buy the system).

HMV’s instore deal of the week is the console with copies of Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3, as well as an XBox 360 Wireless Network Adaptor, for £269.99.

Phew! Hope I don’t have to go through that again any time soon…

We haven’t seen a big-ish discount from Game for quite some time – so long, in fact, that I thought we might never see them again.

How wrong I was, as a new Game £5 off voucher has appeared.

Just spend over £30 and enter either JHESRDMXH or T7WGTGGD5 at the checkout to make your saving. To visit their site right this very second, simply click here.

I thought I’d give this a bit of a bump, as many of the titles are still available for these prices. Comet are quite bad at marking games with the amount they are selling them for, so be sure to check this list against any stock they have – I’m sure you’ll pick up a bargain or two.
