Cheap Games

Beijing 2008 £19.99

I’ll warn you in advance that Beijing 2008 will very probably leave you with blistered thumbs due to all the button-bashing that’s involved, but it’s a small price to pay for some addictive fun.

All the major events are included, and, for the first time ever, you can take part in an online version of the Olympics against other players all over the world.

Comet are selling this XBox 360 title for £19.99 – click here for more details, and remember to choose "Collect from store" to save on postage. PlayStation 3 owners can still get Beijing 2008 for £19.95, by the way.

If you’ve never played a SingStar game before, they’re basically karaoke titles for the PlayStation consoles – this particular SingStar is the first to appear on the PlayStation 3.

With 30 tracks on the disc to sing along to (from artists like The Killers, Radiohead, and U2), and countless more available from the online SingStore, you’ll be annoying enthralling your neighbours in no time.

EA Playground £9.95

EA Playground is inspired by Wii Sports and, as such, comes filled to the brim with various mini-games. There’s also a single player campaign, but I can imagine it’s quite different than the type of campaign you’d get in titles like Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Anybody can play the mini-games on offer as they have very easy controls. Dodgeball, tetherball, slot car racing, and paper plane racing make up just some of what’s on offer.

Disney’s Meet The Robinsons From £4.75

In a move that seems synonymous with video games based on Disney films (see the different versions of Wall-E, which are available from £14.93 as part of the Asda September sale), there are some differences in the DS and PlayStation 2 releases of Disney’s Meet The Robinsons.

Both are prequels to the movie but the DS version is a first-person shooter shooter with a simple storyline, whilst the PS2 release is a more in-depth game with a bigger story and additional mini-games.

Click here to buy the DS version for £4.75 from Blah DVD, or click here to get the PlayStation 2 release for £4.98 from Gamestation.

Spider-Man: Web Of Shadows is due for release on the 24th of October, and sees our favourite Marvel superhero return for another free-roaming game. Yay for him.

Venom has returned to New York to infect the city with an army of symbiotes, so S.H.I.E.L.D. have quarantined it to prevent the infection from spreading. Spider-Man has to work with heroes and villains (much like in Spider-Man: Friend Or Foe) to track down Venom and stop him.

Monster Lab From £19.99

Pokemon always seemed a bit tame, so it’s nice to see that Monster Lab takes the catching part and uses it for finding ingredients to make the perfect monster instead of a funny little ball of fluff.

You take on the role of an apprentice scientist who performs a series of experiments to create a monster. Once finished, use the monster to explore the land – finding ingredients for more monster parts, defeating other monsters in combat, going on quests, or competing in mini-games as you go.

Click here to buy the PlayStation 2 version for £19.99 from Amazon, or click here to get the Wii release for £24.99 from Game. Definitely one of those cheap games to keep an eye on.

Lost: The Video Game £11.99

Although the TV series is OK, even if it is getting a little tiresome, Lost: The Video Game is a big steaming pile of turd. If the shortness of it doesn’t annoy you, then the loading screens surely will – there’s hundreds of them!

The graphics are good though, and fans will get the most out of it, as you’d expect. I feel that I have to mention the frankly laughable voice talent as well, because Locke is played in a very odd way and Sawyer sounds like Huckleberry Finn.

Play.com are selling this PS3 title for £11.99 – click here for more details.
