Cheap Games

The Need For Speed series has been incredibly up and down over the years – it started off well, seemed to be stuck in limbo for a time, and has just recently appeared to be on its way back up again. Very odd.

Need For Speed: Prostreet is the latest title, and is very probably the best in quite some time. Although still far from being as good as other racers available, it’s still good to burn rubber all around the world – although there’s no online multiplayer mode, which is a shame.

Young girls will very probably love Strawberry Shortcake: The Four Seasons Cake, on the DS. Some young boys will as well, but I’m pretty sure that they’re not the intended market.

Strawberry Shortcake and her girlfriends join up to try and win the Strawberryland baking contest – to do this they must travel through the four seasons to collect the ingredients that they need. Sounds great.

Game are selling this title for £9.99 – for more information, click here.

One of the best ideas for a game has to have been the Guitar Hero series – it’s absolutely nothing like playing the real thing, but it’s still incredibly fun. Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock is the newest title available.

With a whole host of great tracks to play along to (from artists like Guns ‘N Roses, Metallica, the Rolling Stones and the Sex Pistols) and a better designed guitar, this is possibly the best of the titles released so far.

Click here to get the PS3 release of Guitar Hero III: Legends Of Rock, with a wireless guitar, for £44.99 from HMV.

Cheap games like this are easy to recommend, as they can be enjoyed by anyone – even if you’re completely tone deaf!

Wall-E £17.83

The big summer film is probably going to be Wall-E (actually, it might be The Dark Knight – but kids will be more interested in Wall-E). I’m always wary when a game based on a movie appears, so here’s hoping this is at least bearable.

All the characters from the film are present and correct, as is the voice talent. As well as reliving key moments from the movie, in the game you’ll also enjoy new storylines and explore massive environments that you won’t see in the cinema.

To get the DS version click here, for the PS2 release click here, and for the PSP version click here – all are £17.83 each at Asda.

Darts is a funny old game – it’s incredibly popular, but yet still seems to only get played professionally by fat blokes. Very odd.

Anyway, PDC World Championship Darts 2008 lets you play from the comfort of your own room. Yes you could get a real darts set, but the potential to injure someone is quite high – especially if you’re a bit crap!

Naruto: Clash Of Ninja Revolution takes full advantage of the Wii’s unique controls, as you need to use both the Wii Remote and Wii Nunchuk in order to play it.

Sadly, it’s an incredibly average game – in much the same mould as Bleach: Shattered Blade (which is still available as part of the Asda mini sale), it’s simply uninspiring and overly complicated to play.

If you do fancy buying this title, click here to get it for £24.99 from ShopTo.

Do you like dirtbikes? Do you like monster trucks? If the answer to either (or both) of these questions is yes, then you’ll probably enjoy MX Vs ATV: Untamed – these are what you race on it.

There’s many competitions to compete in and a bunch of mini-games thrown in as well, however the big selling point is that the PlayStation 3 version has an online multiplayer mode which can cater for up to 12 players at a time!

Click here to buy the PlayStation 2 version for £16.93 from Asda, or click here to get the PS3 release for £19.99 from ShopTo.

Don King Presents: Prizefighter £24.49

One of the best bits of Wii Sports has to be the boxing. Apart from this though, there’s no other decent boxing games available for the Wii – Don King Presents: Prizefighter looks like it might be the one to fill that hole.

31 current and legendary champions (including Joe Calzaghe) are involved at various intervals – however it’s the career mode which seems most interesting, with a unique documentary telling your story as you progress.

ShopTo have this up for preorder for £24.49 – click here for more details.

It’s quite difficult to keep count of all the different Final Fantasy games available for various systems (such as Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII on the PSP). The DS only (!) has three, one of which is the console exclusive Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings.

Following directly after the events of Final Fantasy XII, this allows you to meet and encounter a whole host of new characters and worlds. There’s a very easy-to-use control scheme as well, which is nice.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas £11.99

Tom Clancy has been responsible for some of the greatest stories of modern times – Patriot Games and Clear And Present Danger spring to mind as good example. He’s also brought us some decent video game franchises as well, such as the Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six series’.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas sees the team having only one night to return order to Las Vegas before international terrorist Irena Morales acheives her ultimate objective. What they discover will not only change Rainbow itself, but could also tip the balance of power firmly in favour of the terrorists.

In order to get the PSP version of this game for £11.99 from Play.com, all you have to do is click right here.

PlayStation 3 owners may like to know that their release of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Vegas is still available for £17.99.
